Haven't you noticed this? In the beginning of the truth adds, they actually had some major immagery, like filling the streets with body bags to show how many people smoking kills in X amount of days. That was an interesting add and powerful anti-smoking message to me, even though I wouldn't have planned on ever smoking anyway.


But now their adds are seriously just going downhill.

Seriously, filling NYC with COWS because cigarette smoke has methane? Come on! You can do better than that.

And now, just having people act like asses because the tobacco industries are PR campaign whores? Of course they are! Gah!

As a non-smoker, those ads were annoying to me.

As a smoker, I really don't care.

Strange how that works.

You ought to try sticking it to the Man by going and taking up smoking just to spite their smug superiority.

The cow thing was just retarded. Their earlier stuff was better and sent a stronger message.

Remember kids, the Nazis wanted to ban smoking. If you don't want to be Nazi, you'd better start smoking.

I HATED those damn "truth kids" from the moment I first saw their crap.

Everyone who hasn't been living in a hole for their whole life knows that smoking is bad. Everyone knows tobacco companies sell a dangerous product. People who want to smoke, are going to smoke. Deal with it.

But them acting like a bunch of pretentious little bitches makes me want to go buy a carton of cigs just to spite them.

I don't know... they've just annoyed me lately...They always amused me.

Especially when you consider where their funding comes from...

The fact is a smoke because I choose to. Obviously not right now, because I have tonsillitis and that would just be stupid. But, what it all boils down to is cigarettes -like many legal products- are dangerous is excessively used.

No one has ever died of cancer from smoking one cigarette, but twenty odd people have died from excessive deodorant use.

It's like most things: anyone that shoves the truth in your face is doing so to obscure your view of reality. Sensible people can make their own decisions about the world without having it sensationalized.

Back when teh truth kids would come to our school (back in the days of middle school...) one kid in my class asked "Why dont they just ban smoking all together?"
The truth kid goes "That is a good question, to which I dont know the answer, does anyone here know the answer?"
I patiently raise my hand and wait to be called on. When I am, I say:

"Because smoking provides billions (I said that: didnt know if it was necesarily true.. hell 6th graders dont know these facts!) in tax dollars, and if smoking was made illegal taxes on other things would most likely sky rocket, and all the billions the smoking industry would make would go to the drug lords. All the smokers out there would not want to 'just give it up' and cigs would probably be way easier to get than anything other illegal substance currently on the market. Valuble police forces would be wasted fighting a problem instead of doing more important things. That is why smoking could never be outlawed"

After that the subject was quickly moved to alchol abuse:D
*note: I never intead to tkae up smoking unless I join the army when ww3 breaks out- I know the dangers and lung cancer has claimed many in my family.

A few quick points:

First, the organization organizing the ads is not "Truth," they're called "Stand;" "Truth" is just the name of that paricular campaign, I beleive. I could be wrong [or simply confusing two similar anti-smoking lobbies], but I'm reasonably certain about this. I was very amused, when I visited their website, to notice that they do not have a messageboard, which to me speaks volumes as to their lack of credibility, not to mention their complete disinterest in opposition viewpoints. They claim to value human life, but don't seem to care much about what that life has to say if the person living it should prefer to ingest nicotine. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of an ALF/PETA type campaign against the tobacco industry in the near future, unless the bullshit smoking bans they've been advocating for years get even more unreasonable. I happen to think that those bans will be repealed or simply ignored before too long, and when they do, these people will turn to terrorism, mark my words.

Second, those ads have been insulting and patronizing from day one. Trying to use internal corporate memos to discredit a company is like trying to use a teenage girl's diary entries to prove she's gay: it's petty and it's childish; I could care less if it's true or not. I can't for the life of me understand why stand expects me to care what some tobacco executive thinks about people who smoke.

Third, if these testicle shitting rectal warts try anything in my city, and I happen to be on the streets that day, expect a lengthy [and probably fairly amusing] account of the time I got arrested for assault. Few things anger me more than the spread of misinformation, and I can't say as I'd fully expect to be... passive in any stand agent's presence. I quit smoking about 4 months ago, but those ads irritate me even more now; and I don't think it has anything to do with a change in their methodology.

I support smoking and every other kind of thing that is unhealthy for human beings. There are too many people on this planet and therefore its a step in the right direction when billions of people endulge in things that are unhealthy for them.

If these smokers want to slowly commit suicide then let them.

You know, everyone should just eat more cheese.... and it wouldn't hurt to watch some monk :D
