I have watched some of the senators questioning him and I was just wondering what everyone thought about him so far.

i saw him in tv this morning and i liked him very much.

but he is too conservative for me to want him to be confirmed.

He's just another elitist Ivy League lawyer that subscribes to making common sense into something more complicated and exclusive than it deserves to be.

Funny thing about confirmation hearings. It's been my experience from watching them that one learns much much more about the people asking the questions than the perspective candidate.

He seems fine to me. I don't agree with every decision he's ever made or every answer I heard him give, but on the whole he sounds like a qualified justice.

Although he could be far worse, he has one thing that makes him unacceptable in my book. He is pro-life. Sure, he says that he will "keep an open mind", but that is bullshit.

I did not like how he reacted to the tough questions ... even in the deluded snippets that puppet fox let through

Well, if he turns out in favor of ruling against Roe vs Wade on the grounds it was based on bad law then maybe he will apply the same logic to the bad law used to cover so much nonsense under Interstate Commerce. Personally I prefer a pro abortion position but I find it very difficult to find a way to argue for it under privacy in the constitution. To me it is a state issue that the federal government muscled away in it's continuing mindless quest for power that it was never intended to have.

We can't judge him yet. He hasen't done anything.

At least as far as the Supreme Court goes.

More than qualified. Not libertarian enough for my tastes, but I support him.

And I'm American, so I matter. =P

Interesting, I watched the hearings and didn't detect anything other than fairly short and to the point answers to a bunch of loaded questions worthy of "Do you still beat your wife" distinction.

Isn't they what you're supposed to do in these hearings?

Not unless you're on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

They must not have gotten to the "Is your father your only homosexual lover" questions yet.

Christ, America and its stupid Roe v. Wade fetish. The country would be saner if that case had never been heard.

It would be saner if the Religious Right wasn't so politically powerful, and we didn't let the Churches try and legislate morality.

Yeah, I guess so. I just get all hung up on silly stuff like meaningful inquiry and the general best interest of America. I forget about the important stuff, like posing, impressing special interests, photo ops, and increasing contributions.

Yup, that too (except I don't see churches legislating anything; they lobby).

OMG, how can you support this "Elito"? I caught this (http://home.arcor.de/genius23/bin/alitoad.wma) ad on the radio today and really, this man should not be a judge.
