A woman who went to the hospital with abdominal pains thought she had eaten a bad kebab. It turns out that the kebab was fine, but she was pregnant and didn't even know it.

That was a storyline in Eastenders a week or two ago.
And my mum reckoned it was a silly idea.

Thank God the Kebab was okay. I'd have been worried if there was a Kebab out there that caused stomach pains and spontaneous pregnancy.

It's not, actually. My mother worked in the hospital as an ER secretary or some such, and my grandmother has been a nurse for 40 years or so. Stuff like this happens all the time. Hell, one time, a woman came in and thought she had a bad stomach ache, sat down, and her water broke.

I never understood how you could not know you were pregnant. I mean I had a friend who had a misscarriage at 12 weeks and said she had no idea she was pregnant, and that I can see, since you may not be "showing" yet and the baby isn't big enough for you to feel the movement, and most early pregancy symptoms are non-descript. There were at least 4 girls in highschool though that had full term pregnancies, and claimed they had no idea they were pregnant, maybe they were in denial? Believe me when I was pregnant I knew I was pregnant, even before I took the stupid test, I could tell something wasn't quite normal with my body, and my kids used to kick so hard in the middle of the night that they would wake up my husband.

Amen. This woman must not be in touch with her body at all.
OK, in my books women have just lost the right to complain about how men have it much easier because we never have to experience pregnancy. I mean, how bad can it be if some women don't even notice it?

You're going to need these in about 30 seconds.
*hands Vimeria a first aid kit and a steel shield. And a cup(You can never be too careful)*

Thanks, but you think I would've made a comment like that if I didn't already have all that and more? :)

Probably. And along with that, they could have abnormal pregnancies. On top of that, they could be in serious denial.
My great-grandmother got her period the entire time she was pregnant. Never missed one. The older lady next door told her she was pregnant and she laughed, right up until she started feeling the kicking.
My brother's gf, on the other hand, had morning sickness and, as far as we know, missed periods. Others told her she should go and get tested, but she didn't. When she had the baby, she swore she didn't know she was pregnant. That's a full-blown case of denial right there.
Another woman I know got pregnant in high school. She had only had sex once, and they didn't "finish", as it were. She had missed periods all the time - she had never been regular, and one of her sisters was overweight. When she started gaining and her boobs were getting bigger, she thought maybe she was just like her sister. Hers was a case of denial and simply not knowing. She was pretty far along by the time her older sister accidently walked in on her in the tub and realized she was definitely pregnant.

From what I've heard it is possible to be pregnant and not know about it. Often this happens to not perfectly skinny people (where obviously a few extra kilos are not as 'visible' as on a woment with average weight) and apparently they don't feel a thing. Sometimes (and again, this I've heard from other people, nurses at least, so they should know, but still. no sources yet) they even have their period, though I really don't know how that's possible

you can have a period like thingy when you are pregnant, it's just a lot lighter. Your body ends up replacing any baby cushioning you lose anyway. (sorry if that is too graphic, my kids and I call it baby cushioning when we talk about it and it grosses out my mother in law, in fact it kinda grosses her out that we talk about stuff like that at all, but that's a whole other thred)
anyway, weird stuff happens to your body when you are pregnant, super weird stuff. Things that most pregnant women won't tell you about, and try to ignore. I think if any of that stuff had happened to me, esp. the combination of all of it, and I didn't know that I was pregnant and think it was normal I would have gone to the doctor. It's not "miss your period, gain some weight, water breaks, and have a baby" although that is the pretty little picture that people paint. I have gotten weird looks from the other mothers at my church when I answer questions about pregnancy to the teenagers who ask them, I think mostly because I am very upfront, and don't lie.
