Let's Ban Political Parties!

I'm for a nonpartisan system!
Yeah that's right. (I expect to get trashed from both 'sides' on this matter, but keep the flaming to a minimum, mmk?)
Here's the entirelly fallable wiki article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonpartisan_system) on the subject.
Essentially I am for some or all of these requisites:
# the law does not permit political parties,
# government policies are decided by a direct democracy,
# officials are chosen in nonpartisan election, or
Particularly the last one, because it seems here in the US, that most people treat the election - any election, really - as a big game where they can root for the home team to crush those bastard reps/dems/conservatives/liberals/rightists/leftists/capitalists/communists/bad guys. I'm sick of it, the stupidity of the system permeates all political thought in this country.
I hate the concept of collectivism when it means I'm never arguing with another person. I'm actually arguing with a fucking hive-mind consisting of roughly half the American population. I can't say a damn word on any issue without hearing "liberal" or "neocon" thrown in my face like it's some valid insight. I'm pro-choice. Aha! DEMOCRAT/COMMIE/ATHEIST! I'm anti-union. Aha! REPUBLICAN/FASCIST/HEARTLESS BASTARD! That's how the thinking is in this country: stimulus, response. Thanks to the lovely party-thought-collective, no one has to use their human capacity for free and intelligent thinking: we're down to the level of bacteria.
I think it's high time we realized people CAN be individuals, and we don't have to rely on these crutches called political parties. Everyone CAN have an opinion issue-by-issue, instead of party-line. There is no excuse not to in this day and age. In older times, not everyone was literate, and there was no instantaneous mass media as there is now. Technology has gotten rid of those excuses.
Ban political parties - all of 'em. Let's have the individuals come out and try to campaign on something other than the dumb-ass "party line." I'm sick of that giant fucking elephant and donkey. I say, put those stupid animals in the zoo where they belong, and move to a somewhat more intelligent species: homo sapiens.
Your thoughts?

Well put. All we need is to find a political party to elect into office who will outlaw political parties once and for all!
What you propose sounds too much like direct democracy.
I like it.

Well, I kinda knew this wouldn't be popular. The party system is far too big a moneymaker for anyone to seriously advocate getting rid of it. Besides, without it, what would the politicians do - present real arguments and ideas? Their training is simply not geared for that kind of thing! :p

That's why we must kill them all first, and raze the state to the ground in order to rise up from the ashes, reborn, and with clarity of purpose.

And we could call it the Pheonix party... oh wait.
Actually I have also thought of the idea of getting rid of parties and having candidates run on their own ideas, but I can see them finding ways to spout the same old party lines.

I would support this if not for the fact that it would struck down as unconstitutional. I know that George Washington would have supported it.
Or, we can dance.
Yes. Dance. On their graves.:D

We did. That's where the ashes came from...you know...the ones we were reborn in?

It's a tad tragic that if the Republicans proposed it, it would get struck down as unconstitutional and as a means to create the first US fascist dictatorial regime. While if the Democrats proposed it, it would get struck down as unconstitutional and as a means to create the first US communist dictatorial regime. :headbang:
And of course if any other party proposed it, it wouldn't even get that far to be struck down... it would just get farted away.
I thought direct democracy was illegal. That's why we created the party system (which is so unlike a party it hurts).

Illegal? I don't think so. If it is, it shouldn't be. You're right on the party system though. I've been to birthday parties for 70 year old curmudgeons that were more fun.
Actually I have also thought of the idea of getting rid of parties and having candidates run on their own ideas, but I can see them finding ways to spout the same old party lines.
Yeah, but at least the results for elections wouldn't sound like a friggin horse race, with competing blue and reds pwning each other across the nation much to the joy of masturbatory partywankers. That's something, at least.

I believe the opening poster is arguing that the senate and congress should stay but that those voted to serve on it should vote the way their opinions tell them to, not party line.
I would support this (everyone know that the two party state is the worst thing about American politics) but people are going to naturally form groups with others who support them. And we'll get unofficial parties. Which would suck.
A better thing would be if the Republicans would split into Neo-Cons, Religious Right and Libertarians and Democrats would split into Socialists, Greens and Liberals. That would be cool.
