Cheney taken to hospital Mon Jan 9, 6:43 AM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney was taken to a Washington hospital early on Monday, suffering from shortness of breath, according to a statement from the vice president's office.

The vice president, who has had four heart attacks, was taken to George Washington University Hospital around 3 a.m. (0800 GMT) and was expected to return home later today, the statement said.

Doctors administered an EKG, a test that monitors the electrical activity of the heart, and "found that it was unchanged," the statement said.

Doctors "determined that (Cheney) was retaining fluid as a result of anti-inflammatory medication he has been taking for a foot problem. (The doctors) have placed him on a diuretic and he is expected to return home later today," the statement said.

By "old news" you mean "relatively new news since it was less than 6 hours ago", right?

LOL we he's getting there all he has to do is not come out of hospital. I think he's been there equal times though.

How am I supposed to win the pool when he keeps insisting on just being a death tease? Pfft.

He was released from the hospitol and was only treated with shortness of breath. That ain't nothing new. It wasn't a heart attack or anything medically. EKG was completely normal and he is healthy. Otherwise, he'd still be in the hospitol.

So did I but at least I checked the story out before saying anything. I saw he was in the hostpital but then saw that his EKG was normal and that he was released. Thus this really is a non-story.

It was unchanged. It's hardly normal after all his MIs...

While things may have changed 6 hours hardly qualifies this as “old news”

It sort of goes like this: Bush = puppet, Cheney = puppet master. I doubt the master would be dumber than the puppet.

The article says it was unchanged. People who have had MIs previously don't have normal EKGs.

Ahhh but unchanged from what? That is the question. The docs don't seem to be to concerned though. If they were, he wouldn't have been released after 4 hours.

Unchanged from a previous one. They keep the old ones on record to compare. I would wager his EKG looks anything but normal, but since it was unchanged, it was not indicative of a new cardiac episode. But, of course, they probably did a barrage of other tests, as EKG is not enough on its own to rule out an MI and some other cardiac problems.

They probably did but from what I'm reading, the docs think it has to do with arthritis in the foot if I'm reading this correctly.

One of the side-effects of steroid treatment can be retention of fluid. This, in the form of fluid in the pleural sac and peripheral oedema, can can also be a sign of cardiac failure. So, it would make sense.

That would be undue influence upon the results! Even death pools have ethics by which to abide.
