The line between pain and pleasure is a fine one and not always in the same place for every person.

Sometimes it's fun to test that boundry without going too far.

Masochism can partially be explained by understanding the chemical reactions in the brain. Pain can cause the release of endorphins which in turn can lead to a euphoric high.

I am completely uninterested in it as it applies to sex.

However, I have a slight sadist and a slight masochistic bent in some nonsexual fantasies of mine. Particularly those involving slow cyanide poisoning and being bled to death. Like most people I don't actually want them to come true but do have quite a bit of fun mentally living them.

And as long as everyone's consenting, it's fine.

For me, Masochism has always been tied to sex. I have a hard time imagining masochism nonsexually.

i think you either have some real psychological issues to be a real (practicing BDSM) sadist or masochist... or just really kinky and very confident in your body/sexuality/yourself

personally i'm neither and i find neither a real turn on. i joke about being "punished" sometimes with, uh, someone... heh... but she knows its a joke thing and we never expand on it or take it far (other than the occasional mention of a whip... perhaps spanks or "making it up to her" as her '(sex)slave' *wink*)

however i love to tease. i mean, love it. the idea of bringing a woman real sexual pleasure and then taking it away to tease her (and make it better/all the more satisfying in the long run when i get back to her ;)) just appeals to me. dunno if that makes me a tad sadist or not, but meh... its fun :P
