Can't we all just get along?

Hi,
I've seen a lot of religious posts on this forum recently, many of which seem to be "atheists vs. christians" themed. I was just wondering why we can't get along, and respect each other's beliefs? Wouldn't that be better, after all? With all of the religious tension in the world today, we need more people to get along with each other.

Nice sentiment. Too bad they can never let it happen.

Sonny, it ain't gonna happen. This is a forum and this happens all of the time. Actually we've had more religious threads than on average, but still. That's what makes this place interesting. Otherwise we'd all be polite and boring.

The question you should be asking is 'Why can't we all just get a bong?'
It'd solve so many problems.

Hear, hear.
It's in human nature to be 'schismisstic'
Sadly, that's not a real word, but would be krazzzy if it were.

But then we would be fighting over who gets the last bag of Lays.

I agree with the other posters. If we want to get along, we need to all get a bong!

Most of the problems originate in the discomfort felt by atheists when religious people try to push their religion into their lives, or too much into the public sphere.

Some of the problems originate in the discomfort felt by the Christians when athesists start bashing Christianity.

That's why they should smoke weed. The Atheists would feel very comfortable and the religious folks would be far too lazy to push their agenda into the public sphere. :)

This is pretty much it sadly, its not supposed to feel like Christianity is getting shoved down people's throats, yet sometimes people just say things that aren't really Biblically accurate, people jump to conclusions and generalizations, and then angriness happens :(

As an atheist living in America, I can say that is complete bullshit. Most of the problems stem from a very small minority of Christians, and the rabid atheist here who abuse the court system to try to prevent people from expressing any kind of faith system.

Uh-huh, that's what we do, atheists are gonna make sure no one ever says "Merry Christmas" again. After we finish eating aborted fetuses and creating more heathens by teaching evolution. We are totallly stopping people from doing anything religous....anywhere....anytime....at all....ever.
Or, you know, we could be trying to not have America be a theocracy

If I had a "Newb of the week" award, you'd get it. Unfortunately, I don't.

I think over all the athiests on here and I get along pretty well. They have (for the most part) been respectful and fun to talk to. I think that may have to do with the fact that I don't see myself in competition with them though, and have no interest in "winning" since it's not a competition. ;)

what makes you think we dont get along???
we are so friendly here that we take turns making new nations just so we can pretend hold differring opinions to spur on debate. most of the wacked out chritians or atheists are just friends pretending to be someone else for a day.

I'd agree, but after the 50th "Why don't you believe what I believe?" thread, it's not interesting. It's worse than boring. Seriously, we've all heard it all before. I agree with the thread-maker. Let's talk about something else. I'm fed up of having my view spat upon by others, and I'm sure everyone else is.
It's debate. I highly doubt anyone here harbors personal hatred for anyone else based on their religion or lack thereof. Do we guys and gals?;)

You could take one out of your trophey case.
But don't confuse it with your award for juvenile debate.
