What do you think of people who say that to be a real adherent to [insert religion] you must support [insert political party or ideology]?
I'm sure that we universally revile those Muslims who say that to be a true Muslim you must support the Islamist Caliphate. But what about those Christians who say that to be a real Christian you must be right-wing and conservative?
Do you think that a person's religion bears any relation to their politics at all, or do some people just use religion as a front for their real motives?

Those Christians are stupid. If they believe politics and religion should be mixed they should vote for the actual Christian party. If almost every European country has them (often more than one), why could the states[1] not ?
[1] I specifically mention the states since you said "right-wing conservative". In most other countries Christianity is more often associated with center-left; or "communist-left" by US standards.

You are correct. Most of the right-wing Christians around here are Americans (and if I may say so, they're highly selective about which parts of the Bible they follow).

I say, keep religion and politics as separate as you can. I only involve religion in my political views when some politician or group of people is trying to use politics to enforce their personal religion on others. In that case, I will vote against them.
I think mixing the two, while unavoidable in moderate amounts, is dangerous when you start getting into theocratic or psudo-theocratic territory.

I'm of the belief that there is such a thing as a political religion. So there is not a front just religious beliefs that are also political. Dosn't work just one way either there is liberal political Christianity, conservitive political Christiany, and lots of shades of gray.

Politics and religion are two different things, I try not to mix them. I get annoyed with people who say "How can you be Christian and Republican?" I always answer, well, I am Christian, and funny thing there is this little box I can check on my voter registration and I checked by Republican. They always look shocked at that answer. I have heard the same question asked of people, and they replace republican with democrat, like one party is evil and the other is holy or something equally stupid.
I have friends who are Christian, and believe the same things as me, and yet are registered with the Democratic party, they see things differently than I do politically but similar religiously. I don't think it makes them a better Christian or a worse Christian, but probably a better citizen for deciding what they think and choosing to support who they think will do a good job, which is all I try to do also.
