It's a picture of Edinburgh taken from a hill in the village where I live - it was a cold night meaning my hands were shaking when it was taken. I think I'll definatly go and see them when they play in Edinburgh in Feb as I already heard good things about them live.

This distro (Fedora) installs KDE and Gnome, using Gnome by default. I couldn't stand Gnome (apparently "easy" means "no options"), so I switched to KDE.

When I first started using Linux, this machine only had 128MB of RAM installed. Of course, Windows couldn't even boot without grinding to a halt. And, of course, under Linux with either KDE or Gnome, I would be booted, logged in, and checking my mail by the time Windows would be struggling to paint it's "login screen." I've now got 512MB installed (thanks to OpenOffice, a genuine hog), and I'm using just a bit over half of it while writing this message. Compared to what I was using before, this "hog" is just fine with me. :D

My first exposure to *nix was FreeBSD in a web development class at school. I wrote a primitive chat/message board Perl script that the instructor tired to get the class to crash by having everyone post to it all at the same time. It survived.
Then I got into TIGCC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TI-89_series#Programming) and starting dealing with F/OSS software and licenses and such. Being at the time a computer science student dedicated to the Microsoft platform, this process was extremely painful and disturbing. <Morpheus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morpheus_%28The_Matrix%29) voice>It's dangerous, the mind has trouble letting go</voice> :D

I have either 96MB, 118MB, or 128MB of Ram. My BIOS used to say 96MB and Windows agreed with it. Then BIOS said 118MB, and Windows agreed. Now, BIOS and CPU-Z say 128MB, and Windows just doesn't know (it has a blank space). The funny thing is, I haven't changed my RAM. I just can't wait untill I can buy my new computer (end of the month, hopefully).
Anyway, I prefer Gnome to KDE. Something about KDE's taskbar just really bugs me.

I also tried Style XP, until it decided that all my base are belong to it. I logged in one day, and BAM! all the Window borders, the taskbar, menus, etc are all black. I managed to set Windows to use the Olive Green(Luna). When I deleted the account the problem went away. Now I never use Style XP.

Getting KDE set up right does seem to involve changing a lot of settings. Making the panel a decent size, turning off icon "mouseover" effects, getting rid of the stupid bouncing icons next to the mouse cursor which pop up whenever a program starts, etc. And the screensaver interface is still horribly deficient (but at least now the screensaver actually works).
Ok, so once all the annoying features are turned off, KDE is great! :D

It's not that bad. There is a "Desktop Settings Wizard" that gets everything set up, and then it's just tweaking fine details after that. As far as the screensaver goes, KDE basically just puts its own interface on top of XScreensaver. So I just turn off the KDE interface and use XScreensaver's interface (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Xscreensaver_xmatrix.png) directly. (Edit: Actually, I think KDE has it's own screensaver system that is capable of using XScreensaver hacks. At any rate, XScreensaver does what I want better, so I use it instead)

It's sucks how Ubuntu doesn't take up all the vertical space available. Also, the Ubuntu fonts are so much smoother than the Windows fonts. I've never noticed that difference before.

http://www.irishrenegades.co.uk/Desktop.jpg ph34r 1440*900!!! Gotta love photoshop...
And that is a darwinian. From the game darwinia. Which you will all buy now. Either through steam, or from http://store.introversion.co.uk/. Will play on linux or PC. If you on a mac, buy the mac version from http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/darwinia/
There. :P
What happened to the bottum of your screen? Appears to be a windows environment, (from the XP toolbar to the windows logo) but the bottum is almost Mac-ish.
How's Darwinia? Looks awesome.

How exactly does a duel-monitor system work? Is it basically one big-arse monitor? Or can you basically be running two computers at once, or what???
Or is it just a penis-waving contest for the ueber-geeks. :)
Two at once
The way I have it now it stretches the desktop
Like you can see I treat the other as a seperate computer by using a vnc terminal so I can quickly interface with two machines or have twice the desktop
The advantage is as you can see I can have two windows open to normal full monitor dimentions This alows me to do web page design or other graphical or programming tasks without distorting what it will look like on a normal machine
The other way I was going to try it actualy interfaces with two seperate machines where when I move the mouse to the right side of the left monitor it transfers controll over the network to the other computer which is displayed on the right
This actualy lets me move between two computers by just moving the mouse to the right hand side of the screen

It's sucks how Ubuntu doesn't take up all the vertical space available. Also, the Ubuntu fonts are so much smoother than the Windows fonts. I've never noticed that difference before.
Oh it can ... I choose not to so I can move it around easier
If I did the Dual computer thing then the monitor would actualy be pluged into my ubuntu machine (one of them)

My bro did it too for a long time (he does massive amounts of video editing) I just started with the dual monitor setup this week
Felt like I should try it
I never tried before because I am already using a KVM with four towers and I was like “Naw I can just switch to another machine and work no problem”
But being able to drag from one to the other using both at the same time is awesome
Not to mention using VNC like I am on the second monitor I have clipboard access between the two. It is great

I've seen two iMac G5's hooked up so that both screens are used by the one Mac. That was neat. Kinda sucked having a big, thick, white gap between the two screens, but impressive none the less.

Why did your CPU usage so much higher in that one panel?

the only problum with this setup is that once you get used to it, working on a regular comp is really frusterating:(

Something I made and decided it'd look good on the desktop.
Pffft. That's too overstated. I prefer something a bit more subtle. Like this.

That is the only advantage of my PC. When I use some else's it is always a dream. Even my cousin's 500MHz P3 makes my PC look bad. Although he doesn't have integrated sound and graphics bringing is CPU down.

Easy! it gets cleaned often but I do so much computer repair that sometimes things need to be pulled out to pull parts to trouble shoot (if it is an odd piece of hardware)
Hehe, that looks like my desk at home. :)

Same, I managed to watch each episode. During the Frieza and Cell periods though..:headbang: lord.. Whole episodes would be nothing but dialouge(sp?), enough to drive someone insane.

God I remember that
Though I made the mistake of watching it while it was still being translated
So they would play the first 10 epesodes of the freza saga
Then loop back and play thoes 10 + 4 or 5 more
Then loop back and play thoes 15 + 5 more
And so on so forth
It took over a year to get all the way through that saga once
