Since it's been an intense -or mild- point of interest of late. I've covered a half dozen of the more interesting ones in one condensed place.

1: I'm a Socialist, so long as I don't have to contribute any of my earnings to benefit society.
2: I feed the homeless, but don't like them.
3: I favour gun control, but recently applied to purchase one
4: I'm pro-secularist, but don't have an issue with the statue of Ganesh at my work or any non-christian religion.
5: I believe every has the right to vote, except stupid people
6: I practice Catholicism and defend it vehmently, but am Atheist

okay I understand, because you have explained before, how you can be a catholic athiest, but how exactly do you "practice" catholism and still not believe in God?

and since you don't have problems with non-Christian religions, am I to assume you have problems with Christian religions? and how does that mesh with your practice of catholism?

I think I know what he means..
He is an Atheist, he does not belive, not much at least, in God.

He does all his "things" Catholic, Weddings, Funerals etc.....

A lot of people I know do that,

-do you belive in god?

*no

-do you go to church

*yes

-did you have your wedding/other things/funeral[the last one is more plan to have unless i have talked to a ghost] at a church

*yes

-then you are Catholic!

*no

I think that is what he meant

Socialists don't contribute their earnings to society. This statement necessitates a context of a free-market economy. In a socialist economy it doesn't work like that. If you're a social democrat, but want to reap all the benefits without contributing your share, then you're just an infantile asshole.

Indeed. Except I answered "yes", to the last question.

Socialists don't contribute their earnings to society.
They contribute their labour to the government, which then dispenses the nessecary things to its citizens. Selling surplus and thus making earnings, no?

1: Well I guess you can always hope for a post-scarcity society where money becomes obsolete. Otherwise why are you a socialist?

2: What's there to like?

3: It would be hypocritical if you wanted to ban guns but you don't seem to.

4: Only nonchristian religions?

5: Define stupid people.

6: More evidence to my theory that all Catholics are weird whether they are practicing, lasped, or ex. Why do you like the church so much?

Maybe he likes the church so much becouse it has nice buildings. Catholic churches are often nice buildings, and then there is that what I have said.

Now you're just being mean...

Especially when Socialism is the controlled production of goods and services and the fair the distribution of wealth. Indicating the possiblity of a Freemarket and a Controlled Production Model.

Finally, I don't want to take anything from you poor bastards. I've got insurances comming out my ears. I just prefer not contribute to furtherment of the cause I believe in.;)

So why stay Catholic if you dont truly believe?

So why stay Catholic if you dont truly believe?
its not that he doesnt believe in the church, if he were a discontented catholic he might become .... methodist... perhaps. its just the glitch where he doesnt believe in god.

that does not negate the beauty of the mass or the comfort of ritual or community, history, culture....

besides, once you are a catholic you are always a catholic in the eyes of the church. i think ive been in church 3 times in the past 20 years. and yet i could walk into a church today and feel right at home and be as accepted as anyone. go to confession and get my civil marriage blessed and ill be A-OK in the eyes of the church (and therefore god)

I can understand, I spent around 5 years in a church I had absolutely no faith in, mainly because I could sit and critize the bible & listen to utter nonsense that people truly believe, it was astounding and entertaining... and familiar.

I have said it already.
He does not belive in God, he not convinced anyway, if the wing of his plane fell of he would begin to pray right away. But thats a different story.

Thing is he "belives" in the church..

He does all his things there..

You know weddings, mass before the holidays, funerals...
etc....

He\she is there for the rital tradition and comunity.
He\she is also cheap and would not want to pay for a local on weddings\funerals and therfore uses the church:p

1. Not at all abnormal, this sort of inconsistency among socialists has always been common.
2. Pride in your own position and accomplishments comes natural to man, pity and distaste for those in a lesser place (by their own doing) is just as natural... Albeit basically immoral.
3. Asshole. ;)
4. See above. :p
5. Who defines stupid? What panel of experts passes judgment on the condition of others at the expense of their suffrage? This is perhaps the single largest step towards tyranny possible in a democratic society. Careful.
6. I knew someone like this back in college, 'cept she was just in it for the communion wafers.

I did a documentary about coming to terms with little hypocracies. One of the reasons I like my VW Bus so much is that owning one to a certain extent is inherently hypocritical. It reminds me that nothing is cut and dry, one or the other, and any gesture is just that. That anyone who is one or the other probably hasn't examined themselves honestly or very well.

No you can't see the film. I don't need you savage bastards knowing my real name or what I look like...though a frame of the film is in my profile.
