Overcriminalization

Pretty humourous, and sad at the same time:

http://www.overcriminalized.com/studies/2004.01_ZT2.html

A 12-year-old with hyperactivity disorder told students ahead of him in the lunch line to leave some potatoes, or “I’m going to get you.” The principal called the police and the Louisiana boy was arrested for making a terrorist threat. He spent two weeks in jail awaiting a hearing.

Some of them are really wierd.

Amazing, isn't it?

My school district is like that... The article makes a good point; I just wish the school board would read that.

Plain hysteria.
Sad, but somehow to be expected. From what I gather from news, from friends and not least by people on this forum, large parts of the US population seem to revel in hightened alert, constantly brinking on panic based on the slightly schizophrenic notion that "They'll try and get us" ("they" being the terrorists, at the moment, who finally took over from the communists, it would seem)
The resulting overreaction actually does more harm than all terrorists and communists on the planet could ever hope to achieve...

Yes. It is.

Lets see here, legislated pride in your country? Pledge of Alleigence anyone? Recited everyday by heart?

They control what books you read, when you read them, what order you read the book in, the chapters. Everything. If you dont, your grades suffer and the teacher reprimands you..They control what you eat at lunch, when you play, when you get a break-day, Fascist alright.

Not gunfire, just a good old fashioned hissy-fit, complete with all the colorful language an old veteran can dredge up ( which is actually quite a lot! :D ), interspersed with derogatory references to the school administrator's lack of intellectual competence, his or her lack of known male parentage, and the obvious presence of simian DNA in her or his genetic makeup! :D

English from England is like that. When you say... "You can't half swim" to someone what you're really saying to that person is that he's a great swimmer.

Oh, bull.
No one has to recite the pledge. Supreme Court says so.

Yes, you have to follow the curriculum. Oddly enough, you have to do so in college too. And when learning to drive a car, you need to read the manual. It's common sense, not facism.

You don't have to eat school lunch -- you can bring your own sack lunch. Even if you DO eat school lunch, you get a couple of choices.

Funny, jobs also control when you can take off and when you don't. Are they fascist too?

Oh, and let's not forget that if you don't like the public school system, there are private schools (and hey, the government even gives vouchers to help pay for it) and home schooling.

Yeah. Sounds REALLY fascist to me.

English =/= mathematics. Double negatives are fine as long as the original intent of the writer/speaker is understood.

Besides, that's from Pink Floyd's The Wall: We don't need no thought contro! :D

Most schools, and sadly a lot of colleges, questioning what your teacher says or having the nerve to think for yourself will make your grades suffer.

You are forced into public schooling unless your parents can home school you. You don't have the choice of not going to school.

What makes me very suspicious of the american indoctrination syset is that for as much as they sell diversity, they want to make sure than everyone thinks the same, and as little on their own as possible.

What planet are you from again??? People in the US are not only free to think as they please, they already think in so many different directions that it's a wonder we can agree on anything!

What I was trying to say is that our educators are for physical diverisity, but against diversity of thought. If you make it thru and can still think on your own, congratulations, you win.

One of the downsides of this system is that alot of people stop thinking on thier own. They belive whatever they hear first, which is why so many people seem to go in somany different directions.
