Straight girls and gay guys

If one decides to be interested in men, it obviously is worth more to look good. If one decides to be interested in women, it may simply be easier to get what you want without bothering.

Here's my half assed theory I'm coming up with right now-

Gay dudes, being gay, know what looks good about dudes. Straight dudes actively avoid knowing what looks good about dudes to avoid being accused of being gay. So if a straight dude looks good, it's really just an accident, or they got lucky or whatever. But gay dudes look good because they know what they're going for.

So on average, gay dudes are going to look better than straight dudes.

That's what I believe for the next few minutes...

Yes, one day I found out that our 4k populated school's most popular gay was into me because I seemed gay as well. That's when I realized that I was metrosexual.

I fit in this nice middle that only applies to a few people. Go me. Why the hell did I quote you?

I do believe it does have something to do with knowing what the males go for....but also, I think that females inherently go for guys they know they can't 'have.

Two examples:
1. My friend, Charlie, and I were super close for like, four years, and everybody assumed I liked him. Even he did. The only time that any attraction ever formed on my part was when he got into a serious relationship with another girl friend of mine, and the attraction was gone when they broke up.
2. I flirt with NS boys who I know I'll probably never meet. Kanabia? 'Nuff said.

I think it's possibly that girls feel safer around gay guys. Gay guys aren't looking to crack on to straight women and will simply be themselves rather than try to impress with cheesy pick-up lines. I know it's not true of all straight guys but it is true of a lot of them. In the same way a lot of gay guys will prefer the company of straight guys, possibly for the same reason- and again why a lot of straight men don't feel comfortable in the company of gay men.

Well for me, I tend not to spend much time with straight guys, purely because i have nothing in common with them, that is, the usual blokey stuff of cars, women, sports etc.

As for gay men, well, for me, they don't need to use cheesey pick up lines - interested, they just come out and say it, there is no mucking around, jerking around the edges with it.

As for females, hmm, I think its the fact that females like the idea of having a male as a friend, but they don't want the guy to be attracted, physically to her. For alot of guys the only hang out with a female for one reason - to yet something; straight guys will either work in a 'pack' and if they're out of the 'male only pack', its because he is with his girlfriend or looking for one.

Well, as a straight guy I can safely say that many girls I am friends with I am not attracted to, even if they are attractive.

However, I do admit to hanging out with girls I am attracted to and being friends with them in a number of cases. I just don't know any other way.

True, I guess it depends on how we present ourselves, and you probably come off as non-threatening, possibly even gayish.

At work, for example, there is a girl who has a boyfriend, who, believe me, when I saw him the first time, came off as very threatening, almost that 'I'm going to beat your face in' body language.

Just as an observation, if you as a guy are finding it difficult, try looking at your body language and whether it is inviting to the opposit sex :D

Probably because
1) All TV shows which have gay people on them make the gay people very good looking, just like the rest of the cast (why else would anyone watch them?).
2) Maybe some girls, if they can't pick up a guy, claim the were gay, to save pride.

Or somthing...

I don't know...all gay guys I've met so far were really attractive in one way or another. ... Maybe it's got to do with being more relaxed around girls, with having certain similar interests (like for example... what show to watch on tv ;)) or treating girls differently (for obvious reasons).
In fact.... I really have no clue what makes them this cool... they just are :D

Yeah, and at times, the temptation to get up and tell the person the awful truth, at times, can be unbarable.

I need to say it now; if you're a female, built like a brick shit house, black tight leotards are NOT your friend, and it doesn't matter how big that damn sweater is, you can still see the celulite, the muffin top and the excessive large bolders - its almost as tragic as the frumpy look that comes with wearing a poorly cut skirt!

Well, obviously "all cute guys are gay" is an exaggeration, but the underlying sentiment probably goes a lot like this:
Gay dudes, being gay, know what looks good about dudes. Straight dudes actively avoid knowing what looks good about dudes to avoid being accused of being gay. So if a straight dude looks good, it's really just an accident, or they got lucky or whatever. But gay dudes look good because they know what they're going for.

So on average, gay dudes are going to look better than straight dudes.

So yes, if we're strictly talking looks, I'd say it's because gay men just know what makes themselves look good and groom themselves accordingly.

Though the OP's statement really only goes for the "classic cute" - I mean, I doubt there'd be many girls out there swooning over the mustached leather "bear"... :p

i think a quote from Frasier is apt here:

Niles: "I've never used 'wow' to describe another man before. I wonder what it means?"
Frasier: "Isn't it obvious? It means you're a gay-man "

You know... all you have to do is ask someone...though finding someone who'll honestly tell you what s/he thinks might be difficult. Plus, maybe the person you found who tells you what she thinks of your looks might have a really weird perception of others... so in fact unless you're conducting a scientific research on how you'd score on a beauty scale you'll never know for sure. And even then you can't be sure with all the scientific bias and what not.
Guess you're just out of luck on this one. Just like most people are. ;)

Personally, I don't get the staring at the boobies thing. Boobies are certainly nice, but I generally find the face a much more attractive thing to look at anyway. It would depend somewhat on the face itself and perhaps on the general quality of the boobies, but I think overall, it wouldn't make that much of a difference.

I really don't understand what's the big deal with women's breasts. They could never hold a candle to a nicely chiseled male upper body. Gotta love those swimmer's builds.

Of course they can't hold a candle to chiselled male chests, but that doesn't mean they can't hold a candle of their own. I can appreciate either the beauty or the "wow factor" of a pair of nice, big mammaries despite not wanting to lick them, like I tend to want to do with the man chests.

I think that was his point. :p

What? Kanabia, I.....I thought we really had something here. You don't like me for my boobies?

....Thank God.

But seriously, even my gay friends do look at boobs a lot. I must say, it was possibly the most confusing and disconcerting moment of my LIFE when, last year, my best friend of 5 years (who is gay, otherwise wouldn't make it into this story) told me he always thought I had "awesome" boobs. I think I actually asked if he was allowed to even look at them.

Indeed. Female beauty is like a wild, natural landscape for us to see: beautiful, exotic, but somehow inaccessible, as if our mere touch might corrupt it.

Men, on the other side, are so much fun to corrupt.

I used to say that all the cute guys are either gay or married. It seemed to be true at the time, but now I know that it was a case of the grass being greener on the other side, sorta I liked the gay guys and married guys because I couldn't have them.

Although I do have a theory that gay guys on the whole might be better looking because they take more pride in their appearance and have more confidence (ie aren't nervous around women like straight guys might be) but since I only really know like 10 gay guys in real life, I don't think I can prove it.

yeah, but most of the straight guys around here, their pre-going out ritual is "make sure there isn't too much mud on my truck and change from my work shirt into a beer t-shirt" see the gay guys around here have the whole "take a shower and comb my hair" thing down. ;)

In fact, when I was dating my husband people kept asking me if he was gay because he would you know, put on clean clothes, brush his teeth and shave before he would come see me, even if we weren't "going anywhere". Well it's not like the Pretty People are committing Envy. It's actually the ugly people, like I'd assume you think you are (judging by your hatred of the pretty, at least), who are committing the sin of Envy.

Pot. Meet Kettle.

As a "pretty person", I don't really put any effort or anything into my look about 90% of the time. The only time I do is when it's for a special occasion.

And by the way, did you know, religiously speaking, that the Pride they speak of is actually more symbolic of the life-stopping pride that keeps people from doing their Christian duty by another? Not the average person's "I have pretty eyes, so I'm going to play them up because they're my best feature".

Learn something thoroughly before you try to use it against others.

I disagree. I am happy when I look visually pleasing to me (in a manly way, I don't turn myself feminine) - I don't try to conform to formulae.

Well for me, I tend not to spend much time with straight guys, purely because i have nothing in common with them, that is, the usual blokey stuff of cars, women, sports etc.

Maybe you should spend more time with us. A surprisingly large number of us are not interested in cars or sports (sorry about the women, but that's what makes us straight). Stereotypes suck. What are you interested in?

BTW, you're not ugly. Though obviously lacking in camera skills, judging by this picture (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v420/kaiwai/IM000303.jpg). You've got lovely hair.

Good post. You are onto something there. Gay dudes feel no need to appease women they hang around with. Humans in general don't like constant approval-seeking behaviour. If more straight guys had a clue about this then they would be more successful too.

I asked a girl once if she would ever date a metro/gay guy, she said no. She says she wants to be the girl in the relationship
Good answer. I doubt any striaght girl in her right mind would like to go out with a gay dude.

That girl was a heterosexist, gender role perpetuating idiot.

Plus, maybe the person you found who tells you what she thinks of your looks might have a really weird perception of others... so in fact unless you're conducting a scientific research on how you'd score on a beauty scale you'll never know for sure. And even then you can't be sure with all the scientific bias and what not.

Meh, I think it's because straight women don't know where to go to find cute, straight guys, and also because gay men tend to have far more common pursuits than do straight men and women--you won't find many straight guys, for instance, at Pier 1 or the mall for any length of time, since in my experience straight men operate on the principle that the fewer other people crowding around them, the better.
