I have a BA in English and an MFA in Writing, and I'm currently an Instructor of Engish at a sizable university (about 20K students). In fact, I ought to be working on my syllabi right now, as classes start Monday. 90 young minds to corrupt. :D

Don't take this personally, but I'm not releasing that kind of info around here. In my last incarnation--also a secret to all but a select few--I started getting hassling emails from some old school trolls, as well as comments on my personal website that involved my live-in girlfriend. It was more aggravating than anything else, but I'm not going to subject myself to that kind of bullshit again willingly. Most people here are cool, but there are just enough assholes to make me wary.

I was a math major. One of the lovely things about being in math was that it had a relatively small core requirement, so I had a lot of elective courses, and could take political science, philosophy, psychology, computer science, and a number of other fields.

We have a less focused primary education. Besides, my friend did the bee line, did exactly what he always wanted to do only to find out that he loathes it. Same with another, now that I think of it-he went back and got something else entirely. Our first choice is ill concieved, it seems.

Possibly an advantage...I wanted to do history - and engineering. Impossible where I am, so I had to choose. I might have been happier if I haven't been forced to choose when I did.

I never said I wasn't crazy. I also didn't exactly fit in with most of the students in my major. Most of them were double majors with things like compsci, physics or engineering. I was more of a liberal arts student with a interest in and talent for higher maths. Also, the classes that were hardest for them, were usually easiest for me, and vice versa. I loved the bit of geometry that was non-euclidean (i.e. different definitions of parallel lines) and the more abstract maths.

I'm hoping to major in psychology, minor in mathematics, but that might change once I start. I'll probably be starting this September, (Still haven't applied yet, I'm really bad for procrastinating) and I'll be a year older (And probably no wiser ;) ) than the people I'll be taking classes with for the most part, but that's a story for another day.

Sounds like fun. Being older than average isn't a bad thing, but I recommend applying if you actually want to go or else you'll end up being 50 years older than everyone else and still procrastinating. :fluffle:

lol Yeah, now it's more a matter of waiting until my next paycheck for the cash to apply, but they do accept applications until March, and there's no reason they'll turn me down, and [Insert more excuses here]... xD Yeah, I should probably get it started, then.

Well, of course, I think it's brilliant, but convinving editors/judges of that fact is a bit more difficult. :D

In reality, it's coming along, and I'll be ready to send it out to more contests in a month or so, once I polish it up. And should I win....

Fuck yeah, because I'll be trying to sell that bitch like it ain't no thang, because poetry publishers expect to take a loss, and if you can get them to break even or gasp! turn a profit, you can make a friend or two.

haha...Merry Christmas NS! You all get a copy of Nazz's poetry for the low low price of your soul

ever need someone to read through it (although, I'm sure as an English prof, you have your choice of editors and critics) send it my way.

Also, I've found physical and mental threats work to "sway" judges. And expensive wine.

Theater arts students always seem to be on the ten year plan, and even then don't always end up getting a degree...
