Tear-Jerking Adverts

Anyone here see an advert and admit it brings a small tear to the eye?

For me, it is the South African Airline ad with the blind guy in the window saying that you had to feel an African sunrise.

Anyone else see an ad which brings a little tear to their eye?

At the Porsche 50th anniversary there was a promotional film (a little too long to be an ad per se) where a guy was restoring a 356 in his barn while his little girl looked on (at one point directing his testing of the turn signals and then the headlights in what was a beautiful shot) and then takes her out on its first ride. It was well done and I got a little misty. Of course, I was also pretty tired and had been sleeping in my van all weekend and a little caught up in things, so I don't know if I'd get misty again. But the girl and her dad interacting around that car was down right adorable.

I must admit, one of the original Verizon ads, where people of different races, backgrounds, etc. are giving "the peace sign" to each other was making me tear up quite thoroughly.

That is, of course, until the end of the commercial, whereupon I learned that it was a commercial for Verizon. The fact that some soulless corporate entity took a beloved cultural iconic image and turned it into an ad campaign instantly instilled in me a homicidal rage that continues, unabated, to this day.

Fucking Verizon.

Hear, hear! They're trying to use you and toy with your emotions to sell you crap. Snap out of it!

Fass has emotions?

Of course I have emotions. I just tend to be the master of them, and not the other way around. Or at least, I should like to think.

Lol, remember those Ikea commercials where that porcelain cow gets knocked over and breaks, then the Sweedish dude comes out and says "So you feel sad for the little cow? You are not normal"

The Commercial I once saw in London about Child Abuse. My Aunt said she couldn't watch it because it was so sad.

They showed a child, around 2 years old in his crib, in the dark, and he was silent, then they black out the commercial saying, "His abuser says if he tells anyone anything, then he will kill him"

Then they show an African American Girl, and you hear a thud and a small cry in the back, then they black out that and it says, "Samantha runs into a table, a chair, a fist."

And all they ask you to do is donate 10 Pounds a month to save Children from being abused.

THAT was a major tear jerker.

Thirty to Fourty second adverts can rarely evoke an emotion(of sadness anyway, most make me laugh.) Movies however, are a different scenario.

A really sad one I remember (I'm not sure if they show it anymore) is an ad against smoking.

An old man is reading a paper in a chair and hears his grandson and his daughter walk into to the room. The grandson is just learning how to walk and is being held up by his mom. The old guy says something to the effect of "There he is." He gets on his knees and says, "Come on, come to grandpa." (Or something) Then when the kid walks over to his out strechted arms, he walks right through them and the grandpa becomes transparent. Then the mom says, "Wish grandpa were here to see this." The old man looks very sad and eventually fades aways. Then it gives an anti-smoking message. Real sad one.:(
