Quite some time back... or rather around the time of the Family Guy straight to DVD movie it was reported, but i doubt confirmed that one (possibly two) futurama movies similar to the family guy format had been given the go ahead.

As it is, rumours that futurama is returning TV are constantly popping up and i eagerly await its fabled return.

Those aren't new. They've been cycling on Adult Swim forever.

I have mixed feelings, because FOX is also cancelling Arrested Development, and it's not likely that Adult Swim could save that. I don't want to have to get Showtime (which might pick up the show) in order to see it. Dammit.

It'd be cool, but damn. As long as it replaces War at Home I guess...

I think the return of Futurama would be a good thing. A friend of mine mentioned that the most likely reason for its cancellation was due to its sudden political bent. Whether or not this was true I don't know. However if you watch the last season or so you tend to see the riffs on president bush. Whatever happened to "That's my Bush". If you are going to dig on the president that was a good one.

I taped the marathon they ran last year or the year before of That's My Bush and at some point i might provide material to it.
As per the political bent, try
A Head In The Polls
War Is The H-Word
A Taste Of Freedom
Crimes Of The Hot
And absolutely
Three Hundred Big Boys
which very clearly infers the "bribe" of the $300 tax refund offered to the good populace of the U.S. ... at a cost, of course, to Social Security.

I like American Dad, but it isn't that funny. It doesn't satirize the left very well and seems to primarily focus on the self-justified, neo-conservative, fanatical, unquestioning Dubya worshippers leaving a preachy aftertaste. If the satirical style were a bit more balanced, and if it were a bit funnier, I'd enjoy it more.

As a note, I'm a leftist, but I'd like to see my views made fun of too.

I like the idea of it coming back. As for Straugn's sexual orientation...he is a giver not a taker no matter how much his wife says different.

Futurama I think was not as dirty as some of the other animation out there. Each major Toon has a distinct flavor. Simpsons plays against the family types in the show. Homer-dumb luck, Marge-morality etc etc. Family guy is more of a gross out show in that they are outrageous to be outrageous. Futurama was more of a political satire. At least that is the way it seemed to me. That isn't to say all it did was political satire...

At least when M*A*S*H* got older, it didn't start to suck. Yeah, it was moody and dramatic, but it was also still funny. It remained constantly good throughout its long run.

I don't even watch The Simpsons anymore...it's preachy, serious, and lesson-driven for too damn much of each episode. At least with Family Guy, if they decide to be preachy and serious, they do it for about 30 seconds and get back to pointless random insanity. Granted, not every episode is that great (The Cleveland-Loretta Quagmire, the Christmas episode, and about the last half of Petarded come to mind) but for every loser, there are about five or six winners at least. Futurama is the same way, and they don't get preachy and dramatic nearly as often.

Oh Sweet and Mighty pie, please let it be so!

Futurama is/was honestly my favorite show on TV, though I'm one of those people that didn't get into it until AFTER it was cancelled, though I think I might have been a bit young/immature for it when it first came out. I seriously love that show, so very much.

And now I share one of my favourite quotations:

Leela: This all must have something to do with the secret ingredient.
Fry: My God, what if the secret ingredient is people?
Leela: No, there's already a soda like that - Soylent Cola.
Fry: Oh. How is it?
Leela: It varies from person to person.

The earlier family guys were alright at best, but now they're just not the same. Its like they're over-using the formula that made it popular in the first place. The movie didn't really seem to go anywhere, it's too random, even though randomness can be a powerful tool in humour.

But I hope futurama comes back, but not like the simpsons. Simpsons jumped the shark already.

Good, Simpsons is stale and Family guy is too predictable. Also, Futurama's slicker thanks to the integrated 3D and Flash.

The movie didn't really seem to go anywhere, it's too random, even though randomness can be a powerful tool in humour.

The movie is actually a conglomeration of three episodes.

Futurama had some of the smartest humor. I seriously thought they had physicists writing the jokes at points.

Just don't get taken in by Ethan "Bubblegum" Tate and his showboating, Globetrotter algebra...

found this while searching through imdb...

Futurama (2007) (V) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0471711/)

there is hope.
Godfellas:

Gypsy: "Look, you want false hope or not?"
Fry: "Only if you don't have any real hope."

:)

I want to say thank you, personally, to you, Minoriteeburg.

I wonder why hardly anyone watched futurama when it was on maybe because people think its unique to watch it now

anyway I just don't find Futurama funny or good its one of those shows that has light humour but never makes you really lol much like the new Simpson’s episodes (maybe matt groening has lost his touch/run out of ideas)

Some of the writers do have degrees in mathematics. There are maths jokes in there all the time.

Futurama has weak jokes, but family guy, I mean, nonstop laughter. Viewer's demand has got it back on air.

Family guy has turned into "which 80s reference will they pull out next to get a laugh"

it really doesn't have the same feel that it used to. which is a shame being a huge family guy fan.

I taped the marathon they ran last year or the year before of That's My Bush and at some point i might provide material to it.
As per the political bent, try
A Head In The Polls
War Is The H-Word
A Taste Of Freedom
Crimes Of The Hot
And absolutely
Three Hundred Big Boys
which very clearly infers the "bribe" of the $300 tax refund offered to the good populace of the U.S. ... at a cost, of course, to Social Security.

Leela: I guess there's nothing wrong with being a little weird.

Fry: Leela, there's nothing wrong with anything.

That could sort of be political...

As a devout family guy faithful I will have to agree with you. Watching the new episodes I still laugh my ass right off but not in the same way I used to. Nonetheless with a return from futurama I can finally go back to my cartoon life rather than my working life.

It's only a dud if you're expecting Family Guy again...as far as shows go, it's pretty good, but it's no Family Guy.
No i was expecting it to be funny.
It mostly is not.

How many epsodes were in the first season anyway?
They aired 6 or 7 here and it hasn't been back on.

The Fish is irritating, the Alien is irritating and the program just seems aimless.
I have heard it gets better which i can believe because i don't believe it could get any worse.

Here's hoping for a return to Futurama :D

I'm genuinely surprised more people don't like American Dad; my brother was out in the US for a year studying and got me watching it when he came back. Can't remember seeing a funnier show in the past few years, I thought it was great! Beat Family Guy, for me; the 2 were on one after the other, so easy to compare :)

I'll take futurama over american dad anyday. all american dad is is family guy with more political schtick (i think i spelled that right) and a fish.they just switch the roles around a little change the voices and voila! american dad.

its good but its no futurama.

Oh, I still prefer futurama, but American Dad's highly funny as well. Family Guy always felt too much of a Simpsons rip off for me to enjoy it; there was one bit where I thought - 'heh, if Peter was Homer in this situation, he'd... oh... he just did it. Hmmm...'

Maybe American Dad's just that little bit further removed from Simpsons, so easier to treat the characters as new ones? Whatever. Funny shows all, we'll all have our prefernces, I guess!

wow never thought i'd see such a one sided poll result.

means a lot of people in here have good taste for television.
