Your mom! OOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

(Sorry, had to crack one of these, haven't heard one in like a month.)

Honestly, a lot of people do. They're all works of fantasy. Why not compare them?

There are a number of similarities. Vague and ridiculous, sure, but there are people who read way too far into things and put symbols into stories and movies that don't have them in the first place (*Cough English teachers Cough*) who wouldn't feel comfortable until they pulled every drop of meaning from a piece of text that they could. ;)

Um, was there a comparison that you can point to in order to explain your wrath against comparing texts?

Hmmm... Harry Potter and Narnia I can see. Lord of the Rings I cannot, though The Hobbit would be right at home with the other two.

I agree with you their. I think it is a scream trying to find symbolism in non fiction and memoirs.

Misleading title. I thought this thread would be about a homosexual activity.:p
Honestly, what's wrong with comparing 2 books? You may say one is better than the other...that's still comparison.

Both Harry Potter and Peter Jackson require corrective lenses.

BTW I went looking for pictures to prove this statement and I found this:

How the fuck did that happen?

More to the point, who the HELL starts a piss-poor attempt at a contentious thread, and effs off without weighing in, anyway?

Puppetses, I say. Puppetses or nothing!

That's not "some" weight he lost, he's lost another person somewhere in there.

He says he lost all that weight because of all the stress filming King Kong. So I guess filming the 3 LOTR films was just a walk in the park (which, coincidentally, is my nation's motto  )

You say this like it's comparing blenders and penguins or the Hegalian dialectic to a fish taco. It's not entirely out of hand.

All three are based on literature. All three pieces of literature are part of series that have a large cult following. All three pieces of literature rely heavily on European mythology and 'fantasy.' Two of them where written by friends who themselves compared their texts and most certainly influenced the third.

All of these movies have come out around the same time, attracted an audience that has a large crossover. They are made largely with the same techniques. Two of them where filmed in the same locales. All three rely heavily on the influence of magic to propel the stories, and the overcoming of a personification of evil. Two of the stories have a land overcome by an evil power that is restored when a prophesied 'leader' arrives.

It seems that there is a lot of points of comparison to be had. The better question is why do you think that they aren't comparable?
