this forum seems to be just like any other place in our modern world. Where is the acceptance? Why can people not just coexist? I, personally, am an agnostic because I cannot seem to put faith into anything, because nothing, either logically, emotionally, or spiritually feels accurate. Every religion or spiritual interest group I witness has been tainted by outside force. Christianity is tainted by pride, Islam is tainted by zealotism and bigotry.

What happened to one man's beliefs being just as meritable as your own? Where is the fruit in the heedless arguments and trash-trades ending up falling on deaf ears? Why don't people listen to one another once in awhile?

That being said as a preface, I have the most history with a select type of person that acts as if they believe they are Christian. These people believe themselves to have found some kind of salvation through a god that only asks that they show, in their gratitude to him, the same forgiveness and compassion that he has shown them. What do they do? These particular people become self-righteous, they backstab members of their own faith, they even go so far as to branch out and stick fingers into people who don't think the same way they do, even outside of their religious circles. Forgiveness and meekness are the cornerstones of your religion people. What you act like is called a Pharisee(sp?) those people were scorned by Jesus because of their devoutness to formality and properness. He claimed they quit worshiping God and started worshipping their own customs.

Now a disclaimer, I am not attacking the average Christian in the slightest, I am attacking those that claim they are but don't know a Christian from the backside of..well use your imagination..and quit giving the general Christian a bad name, I myself know some good ones, acceptance over scorn people.

Realistically, I think that if everyone got along and there were no problems between people then life would be rather boring and monotonous. People need things to use their problem solving skills on and they need others to be wrong so that they can be right, otherwise their egos would never survive.

If you'll hang around for a few more days, you'll notice that the reason this is so much like "any other place in our modern world", in terms of inability to coexist based on faith and beliefs, is because both sides are continually biting at each other. Please, you honestly think it's just the religious that are guilty here? It takes two to tango, and in this case it takes about a hundred of us to have such a dance/fight/orgy/discussion. Don't like it? Simple -- don't post on the religiously geared threads. Ignore the posters that try to give you trouble for being an atheist.

If we didn't have the religious and political threads (which are usually the grand majority of the threads), do you know what we'd be stuck with? Lots of pictures of each other (been done). Arguments about which animal is smarter (been done). Regional or RP ads (been done). Super hero names (been done). Bashing on Canadians (been done, but never gets old :D ). The already-somewhat-infamous "Find a Partner" thread (though those are often pretty funny). Arguments as to what musician is the all-time best (things like this never get settled.
To clarify, it would get BORING AS HELL.

So forgive us our nonsense as we forgive those who think they make sense.

Aren't there hundreds of places on the internet already where people can go, "You're great." "No, you're great." "No you-you are great." "Hey, when it comes to greatness, you're really the one..."

This is a place to challenge ideas. Yours as much as others. You don't change your mind or others so much as refine your own ideas and expose yourself to others. You can argue full bore without the 'social contract' of not disturbing the table next to you or not 'butting in.'

If I wanted a bunch of people to agree with me I'd step outside-I live in a place where I agree with the overwhelming thought. But I like to interogate my ideas and the best way to do that is to come here and hear the other side of the arguement.

What I was trying to get at, but I fail ridiculously at communicating, is that the level at which the arguments take place make them argument, not debate. I doubt I need to clarify the difference, but why do sentient being have to resort to "I'm better, no im better.." type arguments? Prime example, someone asked something along the lines of "Does Satan get a second chance?"... And it was a whole page of flaming before someone even remotely answered the question. I just wish some place would have more intelligent arguments.

Then start one side of one yourself, and we will see what we can do.

Well, technically we didn't flame him. And moreover, the REASON we treated him like that is because he was warned twice earlier TODAY not to keep up with threads like that, so we were more just trying to ridicule him into doing something less troublesome. Apparently it didn't work, as he got a three-day forum ban for his efforts.

And everywhere you go you'll have the assholes who'll get into a pissing competition of sorts.....but intermingled through all that crap, there are others of us who WILL look into things before we make points and will take others' points into consideration and not turn it into an egofest. You just have to know which posters to disregard.

Depends on the thread. If you avoid the abortion/religious threads here, most of us actually do make some really good points. Yes, even those folks I normally disagree with.

If ya keep looking at the religious threads... well... yeah... there's no intelligent life in them. ;)

Actually, I very much was going to use you as an example..... ;)

Which also reminds me. Bomber Guys, if you don't like the kinds of people who fight simply with their egos, avoid the posters Czardas and H N Fiddlebottoms IV at all costs......

Seriously, if you really feel there is not enough intelligent debate here, try to create some. NSers are really no stupider then most people *with IQs lower than room temperature*

Somewhat disagree? In that you and Smunkeeville do not make good points at times, or that you do make good points, but the rest of NS does not, or... :p

In most of the religious threads, there's very little said that doesn't break down into "I'm right because I believe I'm right" on BOTH sides.

Actually, I was insinuating that Smunkee and I were the ONLY ones with good points :D

Religion just happens to be my draw, and it is so much I believe this so I'm right, but I kinda like it when I see people actually listening to the other persons argument, points taken on the Satan kid, i had no idea what was actually happening there..

I love Smunkee's posts. Now I feel sad that I haven't paid more attention to yours. :(

At least I'd know if you were just being a braggart here :p
