Hey it worked. Psyched him into making a mistake that cost him the match. All the other guy had to do was lay there and wait for the official declaration and then take home his prize money.

All in all, I'd say this is a prime example of "Work Smart, Not Hard".

The white dude looked a little like Tim Silvia but he apparently hits harder.

Your remember when Cartman from South Park said that all independent films were about gay cowboys eating pudding? Well this is like an independent film without the pudding.

In general, if you punch someone during the opening ref speech or the "stare down" phase, you become disqualified.

Now, my questions here are:

1] Are you assuming the one using the kiss as a psych maneuver is gay and would you call him that to his face?

2] What does this have to do with Brokeback Mountain?

3] If someone of your gender flavor kissed you, would you automatically deck them?

Yeah, but the judges might decide that kissing the opponent during the "stare down" is grounds for disqualification as well.

In response to 3, yeah. He could hit on me verbally, and I would just tell him I'm not gay. If he makes intimate physical contact, including kissing, he's getting hurt.

Not because I liked seeing people acting gay getting beaten up. But because wrestling (like many cowboy films) is bubbling with homoeroticism.

It's disrespectfull. I don't go up to random women on the street and kiss them. They might not appreciate it. They might even press charges. Well, I don't like to press charges so I use alternative means to solve my problems.

Yeah, but gay or straight, not everyone has the same comfort level with public displays of affection. If someone doesn't like to be touched, I think we have to respect his physical integrity. That goes twofold when you,re talking about a complete stranger.

If you ever feel an overwhelming need to hug, you can come and see me. I can take it. :fluffle:

why is that? it's just skin touching skin in either instance. With a hug a lot more skin is involved. In other cultures men kiss each other all the time.

it's not like he slipped his tongue in his mouth violating his inner personal space. :p

Some skank walks up and kissed me I would want to knock her teeth out - same as a man - double so if it were where my children or spouse would see it. The only thing stopping me would be the same double standards men face every day. I have little doubt what would happen to me if I assaulted (er, kissed) women without permission.

It does. Deals with the loneliness, the need to hide their sexual orientation. I think a lot of older gay men might very well be touched by how they end up marrying women and living double lives, too, because it was expected back then.

Thank god we don't need to do all that crap today. Welcome to '06 !

Bah, that wasn't much of a surprise. They did this with Alexander, too.

However, the lovemaking is much more passionate when the two guys are alone in the tent, even if it's less graphic and we see less skin.

Heh, yeah, I know. And the main draw of the movie is the plot, not the gay sex (though that is a perk). I read the short story it was based upon years before it was finally released in theatres here. It's a good story that.

Now if only we could get the gay sex up to the level of graphicness of heterosexual sex in movies... Mwahaha.

Double standard based on cultural roles for males and females. Males are expected to know that certain actions will earn them a beating. Females are considered too delicate to hit. A man who fights another man for an understandable reason is respected. A man who beats a woman is considered cowardly and worthless.

Well...in public...
Most guys won't hit a woman. Most guys will hit another guy if he crosses a certain line. It works for most people, like any cultural rule. Our culture also sees having sex with 14 year olds as an abomination. That's enough to stop most guys from hitting on them, but there will always be some scumbags who decide the rules don't apply to them.

I think that it's the social stigma that keeps it from happening more often. Decency is largely defined by cultural standards. I think some of it is genetic though.

You are probably right that it lessens it, but it is still a pretty big problem or else there wouldn't be battered womens shelters all over the place.

Edit for stats:

Within the last year, 7% of American women (3.9 million) who are married or living with someone as a couple were physically abused, and 37% (20.7 million) were verbally or emotionally abused by their spouse or partner. (The Commonwealth Fund, N.Y. 1991)

Every 9 seconds a woman is physically abused by her husband. (The Commonwealth Fund, N.Y. 1991)

The U.S. Department of Justice estimates that 95% of assaults on spouses or ex-spouses are committed by men against women. (Assessing Violent Couples, H. Douglas, Families in Society, 11/91)

Domestic violence is a repetitive in nature: about 1 in 5 women victimized by their spouse or ex-spouse reported that they had been a victim of a series of at least 3 assaults in the last 6 months. (Bureau of Justice Statistics, 10/93)

30% of Women presenting with injuries to the emergency department were identified as having injuries caused by battering. (American Journal of Public Health, 1/89)

Pregnancy is a risk factor. Several studies indicate a range of incidence from 17% to 26% of pregnant women. (Public Health Nursing, 9/87)

42% of murdered women are killed by their intimate partners. (FBI's 88-91 Uniform Crime Reports)
