Barbie's transexual playmates the subject of controversy

Concerned women for America, a group of easily-outraged bourgeois housewives, has taken offense as a Barbie doll website that asks kids whether they're male, female, or don't know. Apparently asking kids if they don't know their sex will turn them into transexuals.

Yes. The Mattel company is always trying to incite transsexualism.

To pose "this transgender question at little girls, they've really crossed the line," Knight said, who added that "bisexuality gender confusion" is the Web site's agenda, which is "very dangerous."

Yes Mattel is trying to rule the land by raising a transgender-child army. One Capable of leveling entire cities and all you have to do is click on "I don't Know". Join today!! Viva La Resistance!

seriously mark another one up on the assinine chart.

what's even more amusing, if I recall, is that it's a mistake. They simply have "I don't know" as a standard third option. Course, they took the spineless option and removed it. Yay.

Well it makes sense in terms of business plans and whatnot. If you convince little boys that they are female you increase the market size. It's quite clever really.

*Sigh* back in the good old days, when parents were concerned that their daughters might grow up to be nothing but vapid sextoys exploited for male pleasure. Now we don't worry about that kind of thing, we just worry that little girls might choose the ultimate form of sperm-rejection: LESBIANISM!!!!!

Not if you're also convincing little girls that they are male at the same time.

Bob Knight, director of C(oncerned)W(omen for) A(merica)'s Culture and Family Institute, said Barbie manufacturer Mattel was being influenced by the "transgender movement."Methinks there's a tad bid of gender confusion a little closer to home. :)

Good Call! I'm going to look up CWA's (concerned women, not communications workers) email and post it if anyone wants to voice their concerns about Mr. Knight's potential gender confusion and the danger it may pose to the nation.

Does mattel make action figures too? Maybe it's a ploy to get parents to buy both barbie dolls and GI Joes for their confused little kids. I wouldn't put it past them to try such a thing. Cappy bastards!

And replaced it with "Prefer not to say", which is probably what they meant all along.

The Allegedly Concerned Women of America are just another bunch of right-wing trolls trying to masquerade as a grass-roots organization. (Need proof? Their founder and director is a man.) But as long as the religious right is up in arms about absurd stuff like this, it will distract them from their agenda of taking over the country. So call it a good thing.

What! The ****ing Jew run media is turning our kids into satanists! Git meh boomstick!

Seriously, If this was a problem, then naming french fries freedom sticks makes sense. I can't believe that instead of just blocking the site or stop buying barbie dolls, they try to change it. Now I'm not saying if you don't like something, don't speak out, but something so stupid like this is rediculous.

Once upon a time, it was the "libruls" and "feminists" who hated Barbie, what with her being a disturbingly over-sexualized plaything that appears to be specifically designed to make young girls into submissive airheads interested only in shopping and boys. Back then, it was conservatives who rushed to defend this plastic carricature of femaleness.

But then the years went by, and Barbie didn't settle down. She didn't marry Ken. She never had a baby (though she does have a surprising number of "little sisters" who happen to look a lot like her and Ken...). Barbie started doing strange things like leaving the kitchen to go drive around in her convertible. Why, thought the traditionalists, why is this female allowed to drive a car, own her own Dream House, and hold down jobs like ballerina, racecar driver, and nurse? Why is Mattel manufacturing shoes to put on Barbie's feet, when Barbie is clearly past puberty and therefore should be barefoot and pregnant at all times? Why would Mattel betray traditional values?

What exactly is the problem with it again? Is it that the company is trying to be sensitive to children who are having trouble indentifing their gender? or is it that the parents might have to sit down and actually talk to their kids about something that makes them uncomfortable?

grr. I am a housewife (most of the time) and I understand it's boring and there are days that I want to go on a crusade if only for adult conversation, but geez couldn't they pick somthing more important to crusade about?

It wouldn't even be a difficult conversation, I bet I could explain it to my 2 year old, although I would probably oversimplify.

Well the irony is that it was supposed to read 'Don't want to say'.
Are they not going to have the Transgender Alliance on their backs now for not allowing kids to be 'undecided'?

I think the irony is that the Concerned Women For America are part of the same movement that works to remove sex ed from schools...I mean, OF COURSE little kids are going to be confused about their own gender, when you've never even explained to them what the difference is between a pee-pee and a hoo-hoo.

I used to have one of those but it wasn't "Barbie" brand, she had 3 tummy peices that were interchangable and different sizes, and the baby had a penis and a belly button stump. I was only like 6 so I thought he had two penises when I first saw him and I told my mom "He can keep both of them, and I will love him just the same" I was so dissappointed when I found out he was "normal"

I don't buy it, I think they really did mean for it to be "I don't know" and they made up the lie and changed it because of too much pressure. I refuse to believe that a big company like Matel doesn't have someone who proofreads and double proofreads what goes on their website.

What about someone who only does their job half-assedly cos 'it's only gonna be kids on that site'? Eh, it'd be cool if they did intend for it to be 'I don't know'.

I might have to start a crusade to get "I don't know" put on there. I think it's important. I have a nephew who is transgendered though, and pretty much I am the only one he has told, his parents are idiots and would probably take him to counseling, not that I think counseling would be a bad idea, but my idea of the direction(helping him to cope with his feelings, and others stupidity) and their idea of the direction (makng him think he is a boy) is completely different. I figure I don't really need to tell my sister unless he gets depressed or is going to hurt himself, and he always has me to talk to.

At the risk of being a pessimist, half the country would howl PC if they used that grounds (correctly or no).

yeah, but it would be interesting to watch Bill O'riellys head explode.

He was so scared to talk to me anyway because I am the "religious" one in the family, he started out "Christians are supposed to love people no matter what right?" and I said "yeah" and he said "so you will still love me if I tell you something you don't agree with" and I said " I will love you no matter what"

I still am not sure what I think about it, but I know it's emotionally difficult for him and I love him, and I will try to be as supportive as possible, I couldn't imagine feeling like I wasn't who I was supposed to be, and especially feeling that way and not having anyone to talk to, and being afraid that if I told someone they wouldn't love me anymore, It's so sad. :(
