This year is the Chinese Year of the Dog. So what are you going to do for your special dog this year?

Tell us a bit about your special pooch, too.

I don't have a dog, but as soon as I'm moved into a place that allows pets I plan to rescue a dog, preferably a pitbull, from the animal shelter before it's euthanized.

No dog at present, but I'm going to buy myself a pure bred German Shepard, and teach it to eat people. I'm going to teach him all his commands in some obscure language that 99% of Americans don't know too.

Nothing makes you sleep safer at night than a 110 pound gaurd dog in the house. ;)

I will probably buy him a few bbq pig ears, resolve to brush him more often, and always remember to give him his heartworm meds on the 15th and not a week after when I finally figure out what he has been bothering me about.

His name is Buddy (http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c389/Smunkee/Buddy2.jpg), he is a chow/german shepard/red wolf mix (mostly chow and german shepard though) He weighs about 80 pounds and is taller than my 2 year old. He got the pitt bull next door pregnant and puppies should be born any time now, but since the dog got taken into animal welfare custody the other day, I doubt I will ever see the puppies. He enjoys chasing squirells and burying mice alive. He chased the cable guy up a pole once because I forgot to warn him that there would be a stranger in the yard. He gets mad when I punish the girls, but will sit with them in time out and look at me like I am evil. ;) too much?

Almost, Dakini - Jan. 29th.

However, here in Japan, the Gregorian calendar is used instead of the lunisolar, so it is the year of the dog here.

As for dogs, I don't have any, but since I was home for Xmas, the family dogs all got their favorite surume (dried squid strips). There was a special packet of whole dried squids for Maverick, my parents black lab/malamute, who helped me overcome my fear of dogs and saved my mothers life a few years ago

Reminds me of an interesting dinner-table conversation the other day.

Having weenies for supper (junk food fix after XMas turkey excesses). My wife cut up a bit of one for our 22-month old daughter to try. She tastes, looks interested, and asks "Wazzat?"

At which point her older brother says "Hot Dog!"

"Wazzat?"

"Hot Dog!"

"Wazzat?"

"Hot!! Dog!!!!"

You could see (and almost hear) the wheels grinding inside her head. Then a light went off. A big smile. And she raised her hands above her head in victory salute and shouted out: "Puppy!" and then started showing down with great glee.....

So, a very happy upcoming year of the edible puppy to you all. :D
