What comic book should be made into a movie?

So we've had our good ones and we've had our bad. Good, being the first two Batmans(Lets face it, Burton did it the best), the X Men series and Spider-Man as well. Bad being The Hulk. But what do you guys think could be a good adaptation? I believe if a John Stewart version of Green Lantern movie was made, it could do fairly well, if done properly anyway.

I would say Aquaman, but I'd only be talking from the logo they had for the movie on Entourage. I never cared too much for a guy who could talk to fish, heh.

Sandman would be pretty cool, as would an adaptation of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. An adaptation for Watchmen is in the works, but that would be pretty difficult to pull off.

I can't believe the OP didn't mention Sin City--the best comic-to-silver screen adaptation we're likely to see in our lifetime: not because it made the comic into a movie, but because they made the movie into a comic more or less.

In the future, [competent] directors will take a long, hard look at Sin City before making another attempt at this sort of thing.

To be fair, Sin City had a stylistic element in the comic that was translated with the movie. Not all comics have such a stylisitic element tied to the narative in the same way. The black and white minimalism was as much part of the story telling as the 'voice over' element or subject matter.

Not all comic books have that, and not all of those elements can be so 'easily' translated. (not to imply that Sin City was an easy translation). But long running comics have shifting asthetics. Daredevil honored the look of the comic book largely, even doing the same thing as Sin City in replicating panels and covers from the comic book. But it was not enough to make Daredevil a good adaptation.

Frame and page replication isn't going to make a good adaptation. Not all the stories are going to be done well by direct script adaptation, either.

It would be a tragic mistake to make hasty assumptions about what made Sin City a success and assume that the formula is universal.

I don't trust the Wachowski brothers. I don't have high hopes for the adaptation.

I'm kinda being a wet blanket since I haven't come up with a suggestion for one, but it's hard at this point to find a comic that either hasn't been done or isn't being done.

Preacher would be cool. I don't see anything on imdb on it, but it might be in early stages if it does exist.

EDIT: Y the Last Man might be cool.

"Dark Knight Returns"
Even "Kingdom Come" as a Movie series.

one character I would like to see on the big screen... Dazzler. with CGI and FX being what they are now, she would rock.

"Cloak and Dagger" would make a good movie also.
"Sisterhood of Steel"
"Amythist"
and the Maxi series...
"Crisis on Infinate Earths"
"Infinity Glove"
"Infinity War"
"Inifinity Crusade"

I want a really well done Avengers movie. Sure, it may be a rip off of the JLA, but this league has far cooler heroes. Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor fighting on the same team? Add in the newer members Wolverine, Spiderman, Luke Cage, Sentry, and Ronin and you have yourself some ass-kicking just waiting to happen. Maybe they could all team and and beat up Galactus?

I like the way you think. I've never heard of that character until you mentioned him, so I looked it up. imdb.com has three mentions, two tv shows and a video game. I'm a fan of the retro sci-fi and would love to see more things like that.

Unfortunately people have a hard time grasping that, as Sky Captain and the World of Tommorrow proved. Anyone dismissing that movie without knowing about Sky King, Captain Midnight and the like...nattering neighbobs...a movie's not your thing, that's fine. But people acted like they where being forced into theaters to watch it. Get over yourselves people. The reference went over your limited heads...

Annnyway...yeah, that'd be cool. Or a new Doc Savage. Apparently someone is working on a new Flash Gordon, though I kinda like the last one. Though I haven't seen it in a long ass time, so I don't know that I still would...

I don't feel that I'm going out on a limb here by saying that Vendetta will be a huge suckfest.

As for comics to be good movies:
Strontium Dog could be good, espcially if they did his 'Journey into Hell' series.
Lobo would be hilarious.
Doc Strange would be awesome if they could do the mystical shit properly.
My big hope is that the Silver Surfer makes it into the next Fantastic 4 movie.
Dredd vs the Judges of Apocalypse would rock.

Now you've got me thinking about the old First comics. Nexus would be a great movie if you could get the budget, thought it might be better suited for a television show. The story arc kinda needs him to run into some people who have already atoned for the character to be three-dimensional.

Lobo, definately Lobo. He kicked so much ass I'm suprised his leg never broke. Entire movie would be him beating people to death for looking at him the wrong way. Also, he would have a side kick that got on his nerves half way through the movie, and he would just headbutt him through a 15 foot brick wall into a pool of oversized stingrays. Man, I think I should direct it. I think the only person who could play him properly though is a former samurai or a Lumberjack who eats skulls for breakfast.

Oooh, good call. Though he does say in Maus II that he doesn't want to do a film version...but...

I'd like to think of Sin City as proof of concept on that, use the panels as the story board for the animation (obviously has to be animation or misses the whole deal...). It could use the actual interview tapes...man it would be cool.

Burton did not do the best Batman. It is obvious that he never read the comic which he admits. Batman does not kill. That's one of his defining characteristics. Batman Begins is the best Batman film so far, despite having Katie Holmes. Her character should have been Harvey Dent and Talia should have been in the film. Of course, saying Batman Begins is the best so far isn't saying much considering the competition.

Hulk wasn't that bad when you consider it follows the source material. Granted, I wish they would have other source material for the film.

Catwoman was just horrible. I blame Tim Burton for that atrocity. He originally was going to do a spin-off from Batman Returns with Michelle Pfeiffer. Because Tim Burton wants to be "different" he screwed up the origin of the characters in the first two Batman films. Michelle Pfeiffer being bitten by cats after she fell was a precursor for Halle Berry getting powers by being breathed on by an Egyptian Mau.

Anyway, I'd like to see Johnny the Homicidal Maniac or Preacher. I think that would be interesting.
