The Mindset: A wake, memorial, and kick ass party!

I have been called many things here on NS. A newbie (Been a while), n00b (Been a longer while), spammer (I prefer the term 'Free Poster'), flamer (Can I help it if I like fire?), and, occassionally, the King of Space Tech and Emperor of Storefronts. It's the last two that I'm particularly proud of (What egotistical ass wouldn't be?), but, as much as I'd like to, I can't take all the credit. I didn't start out as a Space Tech nation. I didn't start Space Tech. My knowledge of the geography of space (Would you use that word to describe star placements?) can use some work, and even what I know is often inaccurate. More than all that, when I started NS I didn't even know about Space Tech, ignorant that there was anything beyond Modern Tech anywhere on the forums. One nation, one nation since deleted, has the honor of being the linchpin in my entire career in NS Space.

The Mindset, whose unfathomably complex map of colonised space has yet to be equalled by any other nation (Space or not), was the key to my success in space. His map thread was what first told me that there was a Space Tech catagorey. His use of the Jump-Node network on his map gave me my idea of using FreeSpace tech for all my nifty little doodads. The labelled stars were the first time I had the slighest grasp of where they were in relation to Sol, and that was of invaluable help when planning my RP's. Essentially, if it weren't for the The Mindset, I'd probably still be puttering about on metal wheels and my soldiers wouldn't be using unrealistic and improbable high-tech weaponry.

Well, The Mindset's gone. Nation no longer in existence. I don't know exactly when, or even why, but I think it might have been some time last night. Well, just because he's gone doesn't mean we have to forget him. So, we're having ourselves a little wake. If you're familiar with his work, come and gab. If you're not, come and laugh at the people who actually care that some random dude has been deleted.

We'll miss you dude.

Bye, I vaguely remember him.

Though I don't remember the nation, I'd be interested in seeing this 'unfathomably complex map' - is there a copy still hosted somewhere?

As far as I know, you'll need to find somebody who has it saved on their computer in order to see it. This thread was back in July (Or August) of '03 and the thread has long since been deleted. I used to have it, but my hard-drive was formatted a few weeks ago and everything's gone.

EDIT: And I don't mean it's actually unfathomable, that was simple exaggeration. It was very, very big and very, very complex and had many, many stars/black holes/planets/other natural phenomenons/etc. on it. I have yet to see another map on NS that equals it, either simply in pure size (It was several megabytes large) or in the amount of information stored on it.
