What should I name my new Puppy?

I'm getting a 10 week old Papillon puppy tomorrow and I'm wondering what to name it. Any suggestions? My children have come up with either Yugi Moto or Peugot. Any other thoughts? We have a 13 year old Papillon named Pappy Yawn and this is going to be his new "little brother." So, go for it, best name gets a cookie. :)

Thor

Porthos.

those would be my choices, if I somehow lost my mond and decided to enslave myself to a stupid, dirty, canine.

Being a Pappillon, it would probably have to be a French name (I don't like toy dogs BTW - give me a Great Dane-Mastiff Cross any day).

So try this website: http://www.wordreference.com/

Call him misi-sihkos. Because that kind of dog kind of looks like a ferret. It's pronounced miSEE-seekose. Ferret in Cree:)

Whatever you name it, be mindful of nickname possibilities, both the short kind and the needlessly elaborate.

Like, if you call him Francois, he might be called Frankie or His August Majesty, The Dauphin of France and Prince of the Ten Protectorates of Puppyland...

If you name a dog after the main character of Yugi-Oh, I will never respect you. Nevermind how I recognized the name. A full explanation would require a long description of how I and several other adults actually planned the ass beating of several minors in the back area of a comic shop because their parents were obviously painfully unaware of corporal punishment and it's beneficial effect on manners (before anybody complains, it worked on me and it'll work on my kids, whenever I have some).

With Papa Yawn you seem to have gone for the cheesy approach, much like a friend told me of their cousin's dog being named Deeyojee. Along this line I suggest Sunny Louis because, IIRC, Luois XIV (aka the Sun King) was quite fond of papillons due to one of them foiling an attempt on his life (I'm serious).

Yeah, cool name and all......slightly negative attachments to that one, though, don't you think?Depends on your perogative, I suppose. I personally consider it to have positive connotations; if Judas hadn't betayed Jesus, would he ever have been crucified, and therefore would he have supposedly died for all our sins?

There's always simply 'Dog', which is how we refer to our dog. She seems to like it perfectly well.

Thanks folks, keep it up. Most names have been voted down here by the kids in charge :) . quick reply to a few comments - 1) I intend to do all I can to avoid using Yugi Moto as a name. The idea of a japanese anime name for a french dog doesn't sit well with me. 2) Pappy Yawn is cheesy, but the Pappy part came from my wife's grandfather's name and Yawn came from what he did within 1 minute of us bringing him home, he yawned and curled up and went to sleep (we considered calling him Pappy Bored).
I'm holding out now for Pirate and my youngest kid likes the idea of Davy Jones' Locker now.

And when he dies, you can put him in a shoebox in the backyard with a little marker that says "Grandpa".

Depends what breed, I have an African Ridgeback (pretty pure to) and named it Zulu. So if it is a certain breed see where it has come from and name it after that countries most popular (or maybe just has to do with it) name.

France: Joan of Arc, Louis
Germany: Von, Bismarck, Hanka
African: Zulu, Mali, Pharoh,
US: Roosevelt

ect ect...

Also do not repeat do not use my spelling.

It's not alway the best idea to let your kids name a pet. I wouldn't go with Peugot, though, a bit too close to puke. I'd pick something from a favourite book or film, that's always worked for me. Either that or after an actor/singer. I had a bird called Ringo, and another called 'Petrie' after 'The Land Before Time', a film I watched as a child. The only person I know to have had a Papillon called theirs 'Gizmo', I presume after Gremlins. I think it's quite cute actually. Either that or 'Rambo', after the film he was taking after in the second one!
