The BBC World Service has surveyed 32,439 people in 27 countries asking them what they though was the most important event of the last year (full results available in this PDF file (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/shared/bsp/hi/pdfs/30_12_05_ws_events_poll.pdf)). Average across countries, the top issues were:
War In Iraq (15%)
Asian Tsunami (15%)
US Hurricanes (9%)
Death Of The Pope (6%)
London Bombings (4%)
Global Warming (3%)
Avian Flu (3%)
Bali Bombings (2%)
Pakistan Earthquake (2%)
There are some unusual results, inlcuding the fact that Australians, Ghanans, South Korean and Spaniards regarded the London bombings as more significant than the Brits. Also Saudi Arabians, are partilcularly worried about bird flu.
So what does NSGeneral think of all this?
