One of the gifts I got was a CD kit of their work together on the Cote D'Azur Concerts and On Verve.
As anybody knows, DAMN that woman could sing!
Excellent music for writing code! ;)

Look for Ray Charles or Paul Robson next - blow-you-away voices!

Awesome. Just awesome. I heard Ella in concert once many years ago. Just kinda sat there, overcome. What a voice! :)

You are a lucky man! I would have loved to have heard her in person.

kazzalite? :p Seriously, try to find them by a filesharing network/bittorrent or something, and see A) if you like them, B) what you like! Then go out and buy the full albums/big list of tracks - that's what I did :)

I almost didn't go, but the young woman who was with me at the time insisted. Man, was I happy I went! Most people sing from their diaphragm. Ms. Fitzgerald sang from both her toes and her heart.

I can hook you up with a couple of Ray Charles tracks if you're interested--just tg me with your email addy if it can handle files that size and I'll send them. My personal favorites are "The Night Time is the Right Time" and "What I'd Say" (the whole thing, complete with the call and response with the Raylettes).

The best way I've found to search among artists you may not yet be familiar with is to search their albums for songs you already know. That way, you can hear the artist in question perform their take on a song you're familiar with and judge based on said familiarity whether or not the rest of the album is worth listening to (I call it "song branching").
