My list would have to include Refused Party Program and possibly Free Soviets.

The top ten, judge them as you will, communists of all time! I have no clue, but do you?
Far too hard. I could put Stalin in there, but someone is bound to argue that his politics were Stalinist, not Communist. So I might suggest Trotsky, but then you could claim he was Trotskyist, not Communist. Same with Mao and Maoist, Lenin and Leninist, etc, etc. ad infinitum/nauseam. If I'm allowed Trotsky and Lenin, then I probably could claim Marx seeing as he falls in between the two, but he was clearly Marxist, and certainly not Communist. If Marx, then perhaps Engels as well, seeing as he wrote the majority of the Communist Manifesto. Castro could also be classed as Communist, although many would prefer to use the term 'socialist'. How about Ho Chi Minh? Was he 'Communist'? I could try to include Kim Il-Sung and Kim Jong-Il, but I'm not entirely sure the latter is actually Communist. Totalitarian, yes, Communist, only possibly.

There are others i'd mention, but i'm not sure if they really regard themselves as communist despite having apparently similar beliefs in many ways. (Jello Biafra, Keruvalia for example)

There are not 10 good Communists. There simply isn't. Too many acclaimed "Communists" are actually power-abusing dictators. Here is my respected list:

1. Karl Marx
2. Vladimir Lenin
3. Mao Zedong
4. Leon Trotsky
5. Freidrich Engels

These are the only people that I believe did good even few good things in the name of Communism. For those who are ignorant, and think Communism is Nazism, here's a Simple Wikipedia entry on what it is.

The goal of Communism is for workers to take control of factories and business and to share things more fairly. People will do their best, without taking advantage of one another. This is an old idea, but it became popular after the French Revolution and other popular movements in Europe in the early 1800s.

the shift of focus is away from you, your satisfaction, your own self-interest and (in more sensationalist wording) away from "the individual", and toward what is better for all people or "society"
