Considering that the holiday is focused on, among other things, promoting Caucasian history, a comment about Caucasian history can hardly be considered racist, especially if it was right.

The other day I was thinking about this. I personally think this is a good idea. As a 3 generation american I could use something to help me get in touch with my roots lol

Agree on both points, but the reason it's Columbus (even though he technically never discovered the continent itself) is because he was a European from a nation that kept good records that was easy to read. At that time, no one really gave a crap about the Vikings, and there still isn't a whole lot of proof that Lief Erikson even landed on the continent. Lots of speculation and a few pieces of evidence to back it up, but at this point it's all circumstantial.

But I wouldn't mind a "Lief Erikson" day, as long as it didn't take away "Columbus Day." :D
