What game, in your opinion, has the best soundtrack.

I nominate Tropico. The soundtrack is really latinish, it fits perfectly with the game.

Halo 2 was pretty bitchin, and the WipeOut series always has a good soundtrack. Fable was also delicious.

Did Counter-Strike even have a soundtrack?

Almost all the Squaresoft and Konami games had pretty good soundtracks.

The environmentalists were getting annoying.

So I executed them. And jailed their husbands. And branded their kids Heretics.

Very fun.

the answer is obvious, The Legend of Zelda for the NES was,is, and most likely will be the greatest game ever. This includes it's soundtrack. But Castlevania: Symphony of the Night has the best soundtrack ever for a video game.

Mind you people; were talking about best soundtrack. A game can be great and still have horrid music. likewise, a game can have kickass tunes while still totally suck in the gameplay department.

I dunno, I think the Song of Storms is the best single soundtrack piece ever written.

But the best overall soundtrack has to go to the Total War series, especially Rome.

As another poster mentioned earlier, licenced music in games suck. Like in the Tony Hawks and the Burn Outs they've got a bunch of crappy punk songs. Which, to me, goes together like ketchup and ice cream.

Hitman 2s main theme is FAR superior.

However, I love Homeworlds soundtrack. I also found that half life 2s soundtrack complemented perfectly, and I've actually downloaded several pieces of final fantasy 8s soundtrack... However I love One Winged Angel from final fantasy seven.

And of course, battle for Middle Earths soundtrack is great by default, in my opinion.

1) You don't know the difference between 'licensed' and 'unlicensed'.

2) Stop capitalizing every word.

3) It's a matter of opinion.

Pah! the Italian plumber was no match for SONIC!
greatest soundtracks: all the megadrive sonics, and gta 3 for being the only existing example of a computer game with wicked MC'd drum and bass track.

Pacman had no effect on youth culture, otherwise we'd all spend our nights in darkened rooms listening to repetitive electronic sounds and munching pills... :)

What game, in your opinion, has the best soundtrack.[/I]

Two answers, one that's sort of cheating, one that's not. Non-cheating first:

Halo/Halo.v.2. They had an AWESOME soundtrack. The integration of that wordless, somber, yet cosmic chorus and the adventurous, earthy action theme is great.

Now the cheating answer: The music for Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2. It's music from the movies, so it's only a game track secondhand, but I had to nominate it. I think the music for the Star Wars movies - mainly the main theme, the Imperial March, and Duel of the Fates - are the best movie scores ever written, and quite possibly some of the best classical/symphony music written since the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods.

Indigo Prophecy was impressive
