Love your Mums? What did you get her.

If you celebrate the gift giving part of Christmas and have a living mother what did you get her for xmas??

My Mom insists that whenever she wants something she just goes out and buys it so there isn't really any physical gift she can suggest to get her. Instead she wants an activity (like taking her out to a nice dinner or something) so I guess that is what I'm going to do. Probably have to make a card just to have something for her on the side though.

What about all of you?

My 'mom' is really my Grandmother (Nanny :D ), and I gave her what I give everyone... cash.
I never get any complaints, either.

There is nothing like the love of a mother and that is why there is nothing you can give her that even comes close to all that she has given you.
I take my mother out for a nice dinner at a place she likes and take her out dancing, she likes that. She has a husband and sons so she likes to dance with all her guys, it makes her happy.

As far as creative goes, I'm a creative professional. That's how I earn my money. Maybe I'm all tapped out come birthdays and Christmas. ;)

I think it's pretty cool to give gifts you took the time to make, though.
Those are probably the best, second only to cash.

Nothing. My parents disowned me because I moved out and got married too young. I was 24. The only time I talk to my mom is when I call up and make her talk to me.

My mother-in-law is getting some garden shears and an embroidered sweatshirt, and possibly also an amaryllis if I can find one this afternoon, since I don't buy plants ahead of time.

wow. I moved out when I was 15, and got married when I was 19. My parent's still talk to me (well my mom does, my dad died a few years ago) I suppose it isn't the most healthy relationship though, since my therapist has told me to distance myself from my family........oh, sorry TMI.........anyway, I am sorry that your parents did that, unless you had a not-so-great relationship with them, in that case, I suppose I am happy that you have a new family (you know with your husband and kid) I know I am happy to finally have a family that isn't disfunctional. ;)

Yeah... we didn't have the best relationship, and it was getting worse, not better. It's nice to have a healthy happy family who even if they're a bit odd sometimes, love each other, AND act like it! :D

yeah, I know the feeling, there are days when I realize that my kids don't live in a house where they are scared to breathe and don't have to walk on egg shells, and don't ever have to wonder if they are loved, or worry that they will be hurt or abandoned and it makes me so happy, and a little bit sad, because I know that there are still kids who are in situations like I was in.

It really makes me want to buy a huge house and adopt about 40 foster kids, but since I don't have the funds to do that, I just have to help out where I can.

Really? What do you do?

I'm still sticking by my self-made shit!

There are three primary reasons why I make gifts:

1) My visceral hatred of Christmas shopping is extreme.

2) Conserves money. Shopping can be expensive. For all that I didn't make, my primary source of stuff has been charity shops. They have some good stuff, there's nobody cheaper and they tend not to be crowded with idiots.

3) I have some strange ideas. If you really love someone then mere cash (or stuff made by others and bought with cash) strikes me as a bit superficial (unless it's something really cool or unique) and meaningless.

But that's just my opinion. I don't want to sound moralising. Different strokes for different folks.

I don't know about that. Two years ago I gave me to her. She was in the hospital for a couple of months, so I agreed to move in with her (she lived alone) and help her out. I'll most likely be taking care of her until one of us dies.

As for what I got her this year, the main gift is a foot massager/warmer for her to use while she surfs the net. For her stocking I got a gift certificate to Half Price Books (her favorite store), some soaps, wireless head phones for her tv, a magnifying glass w/light, a bendy black cat, some chocolates, and fruit. My sisters also got her stocking stuffers. The stocking is almost as tall as I am and we usually manage to fill it. But she still gets us stockings too, so that's ok.

No mother anymore. I've picked up a few things for my sweety of 16 years, though:

A warm-air humidifier (our place has forced-air heating, so it's very very dry over the winter months).

A pinewood toilet seat (get rid of the nasty molded plastic one).

A bagless upright vacuum cleaner w/ an extra HEPA filter (our old cylinder unit hasn't worked right in six years).

I had a unique double-autographed illustration mounted and framed professionally.

I bought a new cordless phone with a lot of bells and whistles, including a second phone (go figure), as the old cordless phone nearly made my mate hurl it through the drywall a few weeks back, 'cause the buttons don't work anymore.

A lozenge-shaped silk pillow to match our key-lime camelback sofa.

Kitchen untensils.

And the piece de resistance, a gift already "opened"so to speak, I paid for my sweetheart's new custom-built computer. It's got... umm, I'm not so good with technical details... I know it's got 2 gigs of RAM... I think it has two 160 gig hard drives. It's built to specifics I know little about. But it's a damn fine machine, all it needs are some coloured pimp lights to illuminate the interior behind the plate-glass panel. Stainless-steel, bright blue shell with about seven fans here and there. It's kinda freaky-lookin'.

If my Mum was still around, I'd give her smoked salmon, Lagavulin, a few good books, and a great big hug. But she's not, so I hug those nearest and dearest instead.

Damn rich family members anyhow. I'm not sure of what my aunt and uncle do specifically, I just know they both work for subdivisions of NASA in Houston, Texas. That's where they met. They're cool people though. My uncle likes to make models and blow them up. I'm not really sure he should technically be working for NASA in that case, but he's a genius.
