Obscure comic books

Drunk commies deleted

When I was a kid my friends and I were into comic books. They bought X men, Avengers, and other more popular stuff. I was into some of the less popular, more obscure comics. Thor, Rom Spaceknight, the limited series of The Sword of Solomon Kane, Swamp Thing, and later old issues of Twisted Tales (an unpopular horror comic book)

Was anyone else a comic book geek and did you collect any odd titles?

Yeah I read all the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers' comics - when they were still reasonably new!

Although I never read comics as a kid, I discovered the Ghost World (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1560974273/safalrasphilo-20) 'graphic novel' (comic for adults) at the start of the year, and loved it.

I used to like the scary comics - Grimm's Ghost Stories, Weird War Tales, those sorts of things. Also the Classics Illustrated comics.

Back in the early 90s - Puma Blues, a black and white comic, then Grimjack: John Sable, Freelance: Badger. Now Fables

Cerebus the Aardvark (up until Dave Sim became a complete woman-hating one-trick pony) -- especially Church and State.

ElfQuest -- Wendy Pini is easily one of the most expressive and detail-conscious artists ever to put implement to paper in graphic noveldom.

I was more of a geek-by-proxy.....it's apparently not proper for a "refined" upper-middle class lass to be a geek, so I leeched the geekiness from those around me. I date the CRAP out of geeks.

But more to the point, I was a huge Marvel geek. My ex works at a comic book store now and gets me whatever he feels I should see.....which brings my mind around to this -- has anybody read Testament yet? It's probably going to be worth the money that I won't spend on it, because why spend money when your ex gets it for you for free?

I also love Fables, if you ever get a chance to read those....

I was into the Freaks when I was into weed. Strange how they aren't nearly as funny when you're no longer fond of getting lit. Still, they're indicative of their times and even pointedly satirical.

I was really into Marvel and DC's creator owned sci-fi titles in the '80s and '90s - syuff like Alien Legion, Electric Warrior, Star Slammers. Not to mention Jim Starlin's masterpiece, Dreadstar.

Ah, I agree with your taste in comic books too.

I liked what I read of Y the Last Man.

If I think of more I'll post it.

That's funny, I was recently re-reading a few and what struck me was just how funny they were even without the weed.

I've always been something of a comic book geek, but I've only just started reading a lot of comic books. This is because my college has a comic book library. It is awesome. Some of the more obscure titles I've picked up are V for Vendetta and The Watchmen, but Sandman is one of my all time favorites, and Transmetropolitan, Preacher, Fables, Kabuki, The Invisibles, and Muties are all really good too.
