Want 72 virgins? Talk to a plastic surgeon.

So there's this cosmetic surgery technique that restores a hymen to women, making them "virgins" once again. How dumb is that? Women are paying money to create something that's only going to be broken the next time they have sex, and it will hurt a bit to top it all off! WTF is making women decide that they need their cherry popped for a second time?

Revirgination for only $1800. Your right, what _is_ going on?

It is for people, I suppose, who don't care to tell their current partner that they are no longer virgins, for whatever reason.

There are still religions and countries in this world where virginity is considered so critical that the marriage is anulled if the woman isn't a virgin.

Pretty senseless, in my opinion.

This is an old story. I think it's intended to help women from countries where a woman is expected to be a virgin when she gets married and can even suffer an 'honour killing' if it turns out that she isn't.

Well, I can see the usefullness there, but the story says that it's catching on in the US. That's just messed up.

Owning twenty pairs of shoes is messed up.
Enjoying shopping is messed up.
Thinking babies are cute is messed up.

It's a logical progression.

*shrug*

If you feel you need to deceive your partner this way because s/he is very religious, then the relationship is already off to a bad start.

Much as it pains me to say it, the answer's most likely to be 'men', at the end of the day. Yes, I know it's unlikely to be _directly_ (but possible), but through culture, religion, socialisation etc., via agents of socialisation that implicitly or explicity favour men.

In my opinion as well. Some men's fascination with "going where no man has gone before" totally mystifies me.

Hopefully they won't regulate it, thus making it unsafe and further ensuring the progress of natural selection as nature intended, so the stupid are weeded out of the gene pool.

20 pairs of shoes? Part of creating the best mating display possible.

Shopping? Finding items to improve the mating display and "gathering" as our ancestors did.

Cuteness? Hard wired into our brains to make us take care of our kids even if it means sacrificing our own well being.

Virginity? I can't see a reason our genes would drive us to value that.

its becoming more common in the US because we have population groups from countries where virginity is of supreme importance. if you fall for a traditional man, you can become the traditional woman he wants for under $2k. win/win.

Lies are a poor foundation for a relationship. So is intolerance and being unable to accept another human as they are.

Rather than finding another hymen, I'd find another man.

If you dig tradition, but don't want to get your hymen stitched up, find a guy with a traditional family, who has decided that his family's religion is bullshit.

It's because these patriarch savages want to feel like they own their wife. In the same way that I might own a camera. I don't want to buy a camera that is broken because someone else has fooled around with it. These guys think the same way about women. Scumbags.

Sorry. Just the term "honour killings" causes me to spasmodically rant.

The answer is pretty obvious when you actually think about it. You need the woman to be a virgin to ensure you have your own child and spread your own genes, not someone elses. There is nothing worse for a man (speaking on exclusively evolutionary terms) than to raise someone else's kid. Lots of animals take precautions to remove other mates sperm, it is our method of ensuring your genes get passed on.

That wouldn't make him very traditional would it.

Or ride a horse. Or play tennis. Or any number of activities that do not involve sex at all... the whole "a woman always bleeds the first time" thing is after all nonsense as any high school student that actually paid attention in biologyclass should be able to tell you...

Of course, nowadays they are probably taught that "God designed it and looking at it is a sin".

Being a virgin implies no sex previously, which in turn implies no STDs, which, as we all know, is a good thing

The whole reason of becoming born again is to be forgiven of your sins which basically means that you don't have to undo them

Plastic surgeons should get together in a huge conference with martial arts supply manufacturers. That way, they can come up with the ultimate consumer product:

The Rebreakable Hymen!
