Clerks.........yep, that's my vote. Cheaply made? yes. Lack of a real plot? yes.
Best movie of the 90s? absolutley.

although I am a huge Kevin Smith fan, so I could be a little biased. ;)

Hmmm...

1. schindler's list
2. American beauty
3. LA Confidential
4. The Matrix
5 The Usual Suspects
6. The Sixth Sense
7. Jurassic Park
8. Pulp Fiction
9. Leon: The Professional
10. The Shawshank redemption

Very unoriginal, except for maybe Leon. Overall, i think this decade has been better for movies though. Just my general, off the cuff vibe.

I don't like the ammount steven spielburg is allowed to be on your list. Also, the matrix blows.. I'd have to say, out of all the movies previously said, Clerks or Pulp Fiction are the best, My list would also include Resevoir Dogs, and a few others.

I forgot to say that the sixth sense isn't nearly as good of a movie as everyone seems to think it is.

Schindlers List, American Beauty, LA Confidential, The Usual Suspects, Pulp Fiction and Shawshank should be locks on anyones top 20 list. The Matrix, Jurassic Park and The Sixth Sense were groundbreaking, but the first two were by no means even good movies, and TSS was not enough to be top 10.

No movie with Keanu Reeves should ever be in contention for "best movie", of any category, or genre, or period.

Therefore, I nominate:

The Usual Suspects. ( I am Keyser Soze.)

Pulp Fiction. (Ezekiel 25:17)

Reservoir Dogs. (Im hungry, lets go get a taco.)

Braveheart. (Only for the prolific blood and guts.)

Saving Private Ryan. (See: blood and guts)

Clerks was good. Kevin Smith's best work, but I don't think it's the best of the 90s.

True Romance was a little better, IMHO.

The Usual Suspects was a little better still from a "makes you think" standpoint, but inferior from a coolness standpoint.

The end of Saving Private Ryan always brings a tear to my eye. It's one of the few movies that always gets an emotional response out of me. I'd have to say that those are the top 4 of the nineties for me.

Have a hard time remembering films in English... except maybe Trainspotting. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117951/)

Oh, and Festen (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0154420/) was very intersting when it came, what with dogma being "new" at the time.

Edit: Oh, and Kika! (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107315/) The rape scene is classic Almodóvar.

Talking about Pulp Fiction, well in praticular Quentin Tarantino, has anyone else seen the trailer for his new movie, 'Hostel'. I saw it last night while eating caviar and watching the Bond-a-thon on Spike. It looks really gross, I dont think I would want to see it.

Trainspotting's good. Not as good as the book, nowhere near.
Hey Fass, being stereotypical here I know, but have you seen Ondskan (Evil)? It was on near me a couple months ago and my girlfriend wanted to go see it, but we never did. Got it on dvd for her for Christmas though, so I'll see it soon. Just wanted to know your opinion on it, if you've seen it.

I saw it when it premiered. It's pretty decent, actually. I usually hate everything by the author (Jan Guillou) who wrote the book, but the film surprised me.

As far as the soundtrack goes, Forrest Gump has one of the best (so far as 60's and 70's music.) I really like the Doors though... The movie itself I just saw recently which made me realize how good the music was. I also thought the movie was better than I had previously thought.

Untrue: both Bill and Ted movies were brilliant works of art. Ooh, and I see that Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey was made in '91. I nominate it!

but besides the Bill and Ted movies (which I believe everyone agrees own) Keanu Reeves has no acting talent, and either plays someone with no emotion, or someone who can't act. I've seen him on talk shows before, he really doesn't have a personality. and if you watch movies like The Matrix or Constantine or even the film adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing he always plays a guy who is either trying to act like too much of a badass (while coming off as a total douchebag) or just acting as himself (which is to have no personality and coming off as a total douchebag)

Well, at least that's my opinion of Keanu Reeves.
