Well I'm leaving for Uni pretty soon, and I need a work Laptop. Nothing fancy, something that's durable and dependable. Preferably in the $1000-$1300 price range. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I would recomend either an
Alienware Area-51 m5500 (http://www.alienware.com/product_detail_pages/Area-51_m5500/area-51m_features.aspx?SysCode=PC-LT-AREA51-M-5500&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT) Alienware is know for it's high performance computers.
or a
IBM Thinkpad (http://www-131.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?storeId=10000001&catalogId=-840&langId=-1&categoryId=2035724) Thinkpad's are more durrable than most laptops.
or an
Apple iBook (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/70803/wo/vL2PB8TLASBP3TANClq0OzMRXCj/0.SLID?nclm=iBook&mco=DFE2FCC) That is if you don't hate Mac's too much to even consider them.
EDIT:or a
Dell Inspiron 9300 (http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/entnb_9300?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs)

I think the Dell or Thinkpad are the better choices.

With all the laptops I suggested, I would reconmend upgrading your memory (RAM) to 1 GB.

I have an Alienware laptop. It works reasonably well, but as a company Alienware has not impressed me. When I sent my computer in for repairs, it took a week to get to their warehouse in Florida, spent two weeks on their shelves while until they got around to replacing the broken part, and took another week to get back. My friend, who has a Dell laptop, got someone to come to his house and fix his computer in just a few days. Dude, get a Dell.

EDIT: Oh, and make sure you get the longest warranty you can. You computer WILL need repairs, whatever brand you buy. It's worth it.
