Oh, my family has a very open and goofy relationship...it can be a bit disconcerting for outsiders, but both our Cree and Irish traditions involve a LOT of joking. Sitting around the dinner table, we make fun of everything and everyone...and laugh the hardest at the roasts directed at us. This kind of thing is RIGHT up their alley! Keep in mind...my parents are only just 50.

My own family is a lot like that, but my step-mother is from the WWII generation and takes lots of things WAY too seriously. I raised my kids to believe that virtually everything was grist for both the intellectual and the humor mills. There were times when my wife had to get up and walk away from the dinner table, especially when two of ours started Nurse's traning. Heh!
