To Clarify the difference between Tolerance and Acceptance

I've noticed on some of the more "PC" (Politically Correct) forums and pages that people have confused these two words so I will clear things up for everyone here.

Tolerance doesn't mean that you have LIKE someone who is different from your or has different beliefs.

Tolerance means your willing to put up with it.

Acceptance is where you LIKE that person for their differences.

For example, a Catholic Family who has a gay son, they don't accept his homosexuality but they are willing to Tolerate it for the sake of staying connected to their child. While this is just an example I think you get the picture.

I disagree with your definition. I find that tolerance means that you are willing to overlook someones differences in spite of the fact that you disagree with them, whereas acceptance means you don't find their beliefs somethings that it is necessary to tolerate - it is more of a nonissue.

Liking someone for their differences to me is the same as liking someone for their conformity.

It's funny that some conservative Americans have complained about how gay marriage is "forcing tolerance" in the endless propaganda drive to make liberals look authoritarian. Do they not notice that all those laws preventing you from beating people up at random are forcng you to tolerate them?

My view is a slight modification to your position
Tolerance is dealing with some one's views/behaviour,
Acceptance is integrating their views/behaviour into your definition of normal, reasonable or standard, or their views/behaviour is already apart of them.

Tolerating immigrants and Accepting them are very different.
Acceptance is allowing them to become an aspect of society,
tolerating them is not being overtly hostile to them
