... and this time its VIA Rail (http://www.cbc.ca/story/news/national/2005/12/22/Via-strike-051222.html). Also, the union representing 500 baggage handlers in Vancouver Int. Airport issued a strike notice (http://www.cbc.ca/bc/story/bc_airport-strike20051222.html).

Evil government transport authorities. All these strikes kinda make me think that mass transit systems should be privatized.

Because with public (government) owned mass transit systems, governments can legislate strikers back to work. It maybe very cruel but it works.

Privatization works for so many things. This probably means that it will probably work for mass transit as well. Guys like you make it so duh (sorry about the bad grammar, but english is not my native language) that the liberal party has been in power for so long.

How does the Federal Liberal gov't contribute the problem? Look what happen BC Ferries, a private company and a former crown corporation, people in the Queen Charlotte Islands aren't able to afford to across the Hecate Strait to get to the city of Prince Rupert.

Edit: Good news, no strike at YVR (http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/12/22/yvr051222.html).

Privatization wouldn't solve a thing. Workers would still be unionized and have the right to strike. I hope they come to an agreement because I want to go to Montreal next week.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but.... people outside of NY seem a LOT more upset about this strike than those of us affected by it.

Anyhow, some good's coming out of it. At least now there is a recognition on a national level that we need to talk about pension plans and healthcare for public workers.

Perhaps the need to take care of one's employees might even trickle over into the private sector.

Pfff. Manhantan and all the others where just a bunch of Johnny Come Latelys.

In Santa Cruz our transit workers where striking back in September (http://santacruz.indymedia.org/feature/display/17193/index.php), before it was 'cool'.

Liberals. The never even think asbout what privatization can do. Honestly, the governmwnt can't be trusted to control everything, because of the strikes. Besides, with private control, they will not have condition which make people want to go on strike.

Deal reached, no strike at VIA Rail! (http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/12/23/Via-no-strike-051222.html) ;)

So Swilatia, privatization won't solve the problem. :p
