China, that shining example of tolerance and freedom, has shut down a gay culture festival. Aparently gay films and celebration of the gay lifestyle is somehow a threat to the nation.

Homosexuality=Effective Birth Control. :)
ALso, isn't there a growing gap between the number of males in the country and females? I read somewhere that by 2020 there will be over 1,000,000 more eligible men than eligible women in China. Sounds like a good time to go gay if you're among the million. :p

They don't really need gays with their unjust sterilisation and coerced abortion policies. :P Socialists ftl... :sniper:

Alas, the gay card is only in play through fractions. Boy, I wish it weren't, but there you have it.

Communism can't really work, so I'm pretty sure it's desolved into a socialist dictatorship. :P

As opposed to America, the self-proclaimed bastion of tolerance and freedom who, over the past few years, have had a stampede of votes on State constitutional ammendments to ensure that no gays shall ever marry?
But hey, at least you'll let them admit to being gay in a public display....

We have no problem with letting them marry. We only ask that they marry a member of the opposite sex.:p

They won't head ME complaining ;)

Technically yes. They are state Communist, but have several "areas of trade" such as Hong Kong and Bejing, where capitalism is permitted. In those areas, business is more or less unregulated, that's why everyone outsources jobs their way, since they can hire workers for dirt-cheap as there are no labor rights, and they'll work for any pay.
And the fascist aspect...most definately.
So Fass, what countries would you rank as the most accepting to homosexuality?
Just give a top 10 or 20 or whenever you feel the other countries just sorta "tie" themselves where they all suck? ;p

Oh, that's kinda difficult, but it would go something like:
1. Netherlands, Belgium (for the marriage, halved abortion rights and general liberalism) and Sweden (for civil unions, which with the church blessings in hindsight will in a year or so be marriages when the gender neutral Äktenskapsbalk is introduced + full adoption rights + also, the liberalism).
4. Canada.
5. Denmark.
6. Spain (for now).
7. Norway.
8. Finland and France and Germany.
I can't be arsed to come up with any more.

Seriously, that's the best argument I've heard that could possibly point out the hypocrisy inherent in their political model.

Hardly. They're moe like a fascist corporate police state. Worse, 'cause it's a nation in fucking denial of that fact.

Who are the people? The Communist pary?
The people perhaps who would disappear in the anarchy and poverty that would come about if the Party suddenly gave away its power?
Give them time...Deng Xiaoping set out the plan, and the plan will go for a number of years yet. And at the end of it, I'm sure there'll be democracy.

Abominable failue, considering anarcho-syndicalism (of sorts) is the desired end-stage of communism. It's obvious China would reach the wrost kind of anarchic dystopia should they reach the Marxist goal, but is that just because they "jumped gun", and went for it without going through the proper stages first? (Namely, capitalism before socialism before communism)???

Well, yes.
But I think as time progresses, Chinese politicians will realise that Deng was right in his saying: "It doesn't matter whether a cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice.". If you ask me, some of them have already resigned to the fact that the party leadership will end at some point - they are just trying to create the conditions in which democracy is the next reform on the way to utopia.
And then it'll be up to the people whether they want to continue towards that goal.
Well, yes.

hopefully, dude, we're headed there as a global community. It's damn far off, but I hope we reach it someday.
And when we do, terms like "communist" and "libertarian" ae gonna seem pretty silly, IMHO.
