Does it exist? Is it merely a method of coping with, what could possibly be, eternal nothingness? Discuss.

Sure theres an afterlife. If youve been good you get to live on top of the clouds where there is a plethora of naked angels with wings playing their heavenly instruments. And best of all every friday is Golf day with God......

I think the afterlife would be full of boobs. Thus, only straight guys and lesbians go to heaven.

Yea thats another thing. When we are up there we should ask God why he invented excrement in the first place. He probably has some sort of sick shit fetish or something...

Don't know, and I don't particularly care.
No universal or omnipresent figure is going to blackmail me into accepting it's "moral" code.
That aside, I personally think any eternal life would be hell.

If there is an afterlife, do animals go there too?
If not, what makes us so special, a bigger cerebral cortex?
If so, where does the line get drawn? Is there a bacteria heaven/hell?

**ALERT - ALERT - HIPPIE-LIKE SUGGESTION APPROACHING - ALERT - ALERT**
You could try letting yourself be open to suggestion. While I have difficulty believing in any God or Afterlife, I try to remain open to new ideas and possibilities. There is no proof, either for or against an afterlife, hence I try not to jump to conclusions.
I lean towards reincarnation.
And this, children, is why I shouldn't be allowed to press the 'poll' button. :(

I lean towards reincarnation.
Thats not logical at all. If reincarnation was true then we would have the exact same population count until the end of existance(since you believe that one life taken is one life born) Well you could see for yourself that our population has been growing since our species came into being.
Maybe, maybe not. I don't really care...if there is, brilliant..if not, oh well.

A belief need not be connected to logic. Can logic explain the meaning of being to everyone's total satisfaction?
Various schools of Buddhism, Hinduism, Janism, and other religions have explained how reincarnation can work with ever growing populations.
Example: Souls are reincarnated from ALL forms of life (animals, plants, microscopic life, etc) and therefore not subject to the whims of population growth.
Another is that new souls enter reality from other realms and dimentions to be reincarnated into this universe for various reasons of deveolpmental growth, and that is the reason for population increase in the first place.

Just guessing here (I know nothing) but I'd imagine there's some logical explanation, e.g. new souls can come into existence or something. I know there's belief of Nirvana in Buddhism, whereby souls exit the reincarnation cycle to enter some time in (what I imagine is) paradise, so it's probably not an endless cycle.

you wanna hear what the afterlife is? well, here goes. when you die, after the family has played out its little grieving ceremonies and your buried six feet under in a coffin you begin the looooooooong process of degrading. you become organic matter and essentially food for scavengers. too bad it couldnt be more glamorous, but hey look at the brightside- you help provide dinner for all those microscopic bacteriae! dont you feel better now? :D well, im glad i could clear that up for you because i sure hope you werent banking on some sky fairy to zap you up to live in a never never land after you die.....you werent, ohhhhhh good.

I don't think it exists. That is, I really hope it doesn't, as I've no intention whatsoever to continue living in a ny form once I'm fianlly done with life here.
No, eternal nothingness sounds just fine for me...
Don't forget, it also rains gold coins and people shit cotton candy.
I think you just ruined cotton candy for me.
While I'd like to think that after I'm dead I'll end up in a place filled with good food, entertainment and every person I've ever considered attractive naked, lusty and led by Lucy Liu, I guess in reality I have nothing more glamorous to look forward to than years of slow decomposition.

I sure hope so I hear Pandemonium is fucking incredible. Also if you consider the rules of many accepted religions most of us our going to end up there so maybe Lucifer had it right. Maybe humans are the final battleground and once our vast legions are in hell we can reclaim heaven and not have such a bossy narcessistic prick up there.

The instant I take a definite stance on anything theological is the instant I become very, very wrong, so for the good of the hopes and dreams of billions, I refuse to take any definite stance on afterlife.

Death scares the shit out of me. Everyone says it's hard to imagine that there's any kind of afterlife/reincarnation but I find it equally hard to believe that once i'm dead........i'll be....nothingness....nothing.......eternal darkness - is that possible? I sure hope not. If your reading this God, please let there be a heaven or something cause I don't want to be nothingness.
