Does everyone need to develop a thicker skin?

So many people say "I'm offended by X" or "Insulted by Y" etc do people perhaps need to develop a thicker skin to some things. I agree some things are beyond the pail but there are others which people could just ignore and put up with, even if they still disaprove of it. I think if people voice their disaproval in a reasonable manner, people will be more willing to listen to them.

I wouldn't mind thicker skin. Lets me walk barefoot and withstand pain better.

Story time with

Maude Friggit
(read with a gravely voice)
*lights cig*
*takes a puff*
Today children, we're going to learn a lesson.
"What is it tell us!"
Well, children, its the story of these two kids just like you!
"Really?"
Yes really.
"Really Really Really"
Yes really you little shitlins. *another puff*
"Ok."
Anyway there were these two children. Each was different and unique in there own way. They may have looked like you.
"REally"
Jesus, yes really, *pops valium*
"Ok."
Anyway, the one kid, kid A-
"Was that his name?"
ughfufhd. . . Yes. The other kid, kid B, would be mean and make fun of kid A for being, well A-ish.
"And. . .?"
Well, that's the story. Oh wait, before I forget, A retaliated with insults of his own and B went home like a little bitch.
"so what does it mean?"
It means you gotta suck it up. Now go home and tolerate or some other shit like that. *cough cough, cough cough cough*

Ack! That is the second time in the last hour I have heard that expression, and for today the first time ever.

What does it mean??

By the way, the other way spelled it "pale".

Yes, yes they do. A good example right now would be "zOMG T3H W@R 0N CHR1STM@S!!!!!!11"

And beyond the pail/pale (not sure either) is a rare expression it seems. In 16 years I've heard it maybe once. I picked up what it means from context but I do wonder where it came from? Shakespeare probably. Oh well, anyways, yes people need to get thicker skins but you can't just let everything bounce off of you or else you'll look like a push-over.

Now isn't that a nice heart-warming story? I think it tells us all precisely what we need to know. That Fleck here is a complete loony who enjoys riding asses...
Yeah, some people need to develop a thicker skin, but not everyone takes insults the same way. If someone insults me, I laugh it off, but I know that's not true of everyone, so I'm always careful around people until I know precisely how far I can push it. And then I try pushing it a bit too far...

Took me 5 seconds searching on Google...possibly the most efficient that thing's ever been for me.

You sound suspiciously sane. Geddim! ;)

On a more serious note, you're quite right, but don't hold out much hope. People on the whole are volatile.

I'd say as a general rule, yes. People need to get thicker skin and stop being so damned politically correct, too.

Yeah just stop political correctness because it is actually infringing on freedom of speech and against the constitutional ammendment as well as the
Canadian Charter of rights(i'm Canadian btw).

As for "taking insults" and be stupid then i guess what happens after that is freedom of expression which is a right hook to the jaw which expresses that you don't like them.

as jerry the king lawler would say, Keep your words soft and sweet because you might end up eating them later.
