How will the Human Race end?

Stone Bridges
21-12-2005, 06:39
The dinosuars ended by a shower of meterorites, which resulted dust and dirt covering up the sun, which killed plants, which in turn kill the plant eating dinosuars, which in turn killed the meat eating dinosuars.

So, how do you think the Human Race will end?

My vote is that we'll destory ourselves when tensions finally break and every country that has a Nuclear weapon uses it on their worst enemy.

I don't know what you're talking about, but my post was an intentional misquote of the name of a Robert Frost poem. :)

"Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice."

It's a song based on the Noah story from the Old Testament. God made the rainbow as a sign of the pact he made with Noah that he would not destory the world with water anymore. That why I said I doubt it would be ice next time.

Please let's not turn this into a theological debate.

Like Ive said many times in the past on here, humans will no longer be able to effectively acquire oil and several other vital natural resources in about 20-30 years, then as businessess collapse and people can no longer travel long distances (because we've been too busy driving H2s rather than Priuses) society will start to slowly crumble, and I'm guessing that what once were cities, will turn into little factions that will start warring with neighboring factions for precious resources (in my area, water will be one of them) and then we will eventually kill ourselves off, or evolve into a totally different animal.

...But that will never happen because we're fighting the Global War on Terror, to protect our children and grandchildren, right?

From what I’ve tasted of desire

But if it had to perish twice,

An interesting theory, I suppose, but I severely disagree with your analysis. I see a dichotomy regarding humankinds' future; either we evolve as we always have and continue to replace fading resources with new ones, or we die a quick and tragic death. Concerning the latter, it may be inevitable so I see no point in fretting about it. I'm going to live my life as I have.

Unfortunately if vital resources like oil do run out in 20-30 years the collapse of society will not be slow. War will break out long before then to secure the last of the oil or to fend off the armies from the oil rich countries that now have no economy or basic income. You may have noticed the estimates for the end of fossil fuels are dynamic as our machines become more efficient. Granted China and India will soon consume much more there is no way the world powers will let the fossil fuels run out without either a fight or a contingency plan. (There are other sources of power) There is no doubt there will be strife and probably war with the decrease in fossil fuels but to speak of them as the slow end of humanity is utter foolishness. There will be plenty of stock left when the bombers take off to secure the rest and the bullets will fire no matter what. If the resulting war does not kill of humanity (which I doubt it would) the rest will reorganize as they always do.

The end will come when we all just collectively stop trying.

Don't think the world will end atall untill the sun expands in billions of years and engulfs it.

Don't think the human race will die out, were arguably the most adaptable species ever, but I don't think the earth can sustain this 6bn popn indefinitely, there will be a crash.

Wars will always happen.

Neanderthol's were around for over 250,000 years.

Home Sapiens have been around for about 40,000 years and only started recording history 6,000 years ago.

The Universe is billions upon billions of years old (picture Carl Sagan when you read that).

Now, I'm 34 years old, and I can already see as the years have gone by that 6,000 years goes by extremely fast.

Our leaders speak of tradition, 'the ways it has always been', and maintaining the status quo. American ego-centrists think the US has always been in power and always will be--they've been a superpower for barely 50-60 years. Stereotypical family models in the 50's had women in dresses and aprons vacuuming cheerfully, a.k.a. Donna Reed, while playing with her new blender. Where was Donna Reed when the earth's surface was a blazing inferno that engulfed asteroids by the thousands in explosive bursts of energy larger than the force of all of our nuclear weapons combined?

As far as the Universe is concerned, Earth, a tiny spec of dust, circling a slightly larger glowing spec of dust, caught up in a miniscule wisp of a sand cloud we call a galaxy--Earth... has caught a head cold.

She will eventually take her aspirin.

I think it was by Frederick Pohl), it will end when we tick off every other species in the universe, and must fight for survival against the enemy, eventually being reduced to one man, in one ship, kept immortal by our most advanced technologies. And when only that man is left, the ship will run.

At relativistic speeds, the enemy will not be able to catch him, and so for aeons, one man, the last of his species, will fly through space, until finally, the Universe contracts backwards into a tiny ball, and all things are destroyed. Then, the human race will die, not with a whimper, but with a roar of defiance. We will have tied.

Most likely we die at the hands of an alien race. After of course we colonize foreign planets and wreak havoc on the enviroments there. Alien beings will decide that humans are much to destructive. An ensuing "Star Wars" breaks out and we get the short end of the stick.
