Are we really the cause of all the problems, or just the biggest target, and therefore the ones who always get sucked into every damn conflict?

I'd think such a disappearance of land would cause massive causualities from bordering nations as well. I mean, the rupturing of the land would be pretty catastrophic.

Kill more people. Iran would probably step in to protect the Shi'ite population, the Kurds would go independent and be attacked by Turkey, and the Sunni areas will probably become some sort of failed state full of terrorist training camps.
But then again, the US started this one, so it's kinda a thing of "if they hadn't been there, the problem wouldn't even exist".

Nothing much different. They can't do anything now, nor will they in the future.

Would run out of rhetoric. Maybe they'll try to push for reunification, but probably not militarily...the South could probably beat them if it got serious.

China?
Go broke. They like the Americans as trading partners. If that somehow didn't matter, I don't think they'd deviate much from their current plans, which is to guarantee resources for the future.

Well, personally I don't think the US Military makes me any safer. On the other hand, I don't think it makes me any less safe (politicians do that).

No, not really. Although we wouldn't have the US Special Envoy poking his nose into the peace process where it isn't wanted. And we'd get a new building available for rent in the city centre if the US embassy closed.

Now if you mean just remove us from the political world, then I would say that the world(ignoring economics) would target everything on Europe and China, most likely China. But, luckily for me, and millions of other people around the world, we are here and we're here to stay (until someone like China wins the war against us, I wonder when that will be...).

When I am questioned on why other people would be depressed to see us go my response is this: We still get hundreds of thousands of immigrants looking for a better life here, whether it be jobs for people from places like Mexico. Also, no matter what anyone says, Americans are still a whole lot better off than most of the world, even with Bush breathing down our backs all the time.

I would predict that terrorism would increase exponentially in Iraq and Afghanistan until both governments collapse, ending any democracy in the Middle East. Eventually either Muslim terrorism groups like al Qaeda take over or another Hussein style dictator emerges. Maybe Saddam himself. Either way, there would be an incredible bloodletting to punish anyone even suspected of cooperating with the west.

The situation for Israel would become increasingly desperate. It's a small country and recently became smaller. Various Arab nations could become emboldened and either through terrorism or military force attempt to get rid of Israel once and for all.

Without the United States as a target, terrorism groups would focus their attention more on Europe. A repeat of the 9/11 attack could befall London or Paris.

On the other side of the globe, North Korea also becomes emboldened or just plain desperate and moves on South Korea. China uses this opportunity to invade Taiwan.

If the United States disappeared, then the United Nations went with it. Some attempt might be made to recreate it in Europe or elsewhere, but I don't think it would be successful.

Mexico's economy tanks, as the revenue provided by workers in the US is now gone. Many countries that were either trading partners with America or were receiving aid from America find themselves in trouble. Not just government aid but also private donations are gone. The American chapter of the Red Cross, various religious charity agencies, that's all gone. With the next big famine, earthquake or typhon, a lot of people are going to be looking for help that's not there anymore. Canada, England, Japan and other nations will still do what they can, but a large piece of the emergency relief has been from the United States. National government, private citizens and corporations. All gone now.

Australia. No.
Initially Australia's security would be of some concern, however we have few enemies and would plenty of time to find a new teet-nation from which we could suckle security from. Keep in mind terrorists hardly have the capabilities to 'invade'. China's founding constitution is based almost solely against impearialism of any kind (n.b. China may appaer imperialistic, but that is only towards nations deemed to be included within the initial definition of china as it was at the revolution). Again, NKorea is an Isolationist state- they would probably march on to SKorea and possibly Japan at most. None of the nations or terrorist groups mentioned would truly represent a global threat. They never really have.

Yes we would be someone elses bitch within a year, but in the event o the evaporation of the US, one could hope the 'butch' factor would be more evenly distributed. This is especially true of Australia though, from what I understand, most nations are capable of defending themselves. Also note that I enjoy the fact that Australia doen't have a huge military, it practically prohibits fwit politions from militarily domineering the affairs of other non-related countries.

Economically, the whole thing would suck for everyone. While this may be true, it is also true that the world economy would probably be better off in the long run (after recovery from the incident, which it definitely would-sooner than you'd think) without America's rigged-system of US always profits somehow.

I don't know; much as I sincerely dislike a lot of American policies, I think that things (as they are now) may be difficult if the place suddenly ceased to be. There's an old saying that goes something like, "when America sneezes, Europe catches a cold". I think there's an element of truth in that; the UK (and some other parts of Western Europe) have traditionally been allies of the USA.

Our armies may be OK, but if we were invaded, we could well be fucked without US support. For example, although America joined the second world war disgustingly late in the day, it's certainly questionable as to whether the European allies would have won it without their eventual support.

Be extremely confused because their main target isn't there. Though, they'd get over it quickly and go after the Brits and other with more zeal, thinking their plan to drive the American forces out worked.

Rejoice and for the hell of it, drop a bomb on Israel because there is no one there by Israel's side with the same or greater nuclear capacity to retaliate with the same fire power, and Europe has been too diplomatic up to this point.

Well, on hordes from their president, the people would be forced to dance in the streets as a sign of rejoice, even though they may not feel like it.

N. Korea would then turn its sights south and push into S. Korea in an attempt to reunite the nation.

Though, in the mean time the economy would partially collapse and part of their population would die off due to economic inbalances that lead to market inflation and thus, inflated food prices, meaning the very poor starve and die off. Therefore, forcing the end to sweat shops.

Well, let's look at history a bit...

WWI - The Germans sunk the Lusitania in 1917. I guess that's being sucked into a conflict.

WWII - The Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor. The Americans declare war on the Japanese. This part makes sense. After all, the Japanese did outright attack the US in an act of war.

If the Pentagon had been thinking, they would've ignored the Germans, since the Germans had other enemies and taken out the Japanese with the full force of the American military instead of splitting it between two fronts, since the allies weren't making any BIG pushes onto mainland Europe until 1943 (excluding the failed ones up to this point).

So, in a way, the Americans got sucked into two different battle fronts, instead of taking one side then helping with the other.

Cold War - this is more of a mutual thing.

Korean War - There is no doubt that America, still on its self-inflated power trip decided to take this one on itself.

Vietnam - see above

Grenada - see above above

Gulf War - Well, they were sucked in as part of NATO.

Afghanistan - This one is America being arrogant and hurt over 9/11. However, they shouldn't have gone after this country. They should've hit Saudi Arabia, since they were the biggest supplier of terrorists who had perpetrated the 9/11 attacks, which in itself is a declaration of war.

Iraq - The Americans put Saddam in power... and when he no longer acted like a lapdog, they attacked. Yep, definitely the biggest cause of problems there. After all, the terrorists weren't there before the Americans came.

Conclusion? If they had stuck to their isolationists policy, they wouldn't be such a pain in the ass on the global front. They didn't need to participate in all those wars. And, with Vietnam, they should've left it to the French who were doing such a wonderful job...

Actually, yes because so many of the guns on Toronto streets are illegally imported from the US, and the US is doing nothing to curb the sale of lethal fire arms.

I didn't mind the violence when it was merely gang violance (gang vs gang), but with the influx of guns, I really do mind and the guns come from the US, since it is the place where acquiring a gun is about as easy as buying a 12-pack.

I'm sure there would be another place for them to get their guns from, but it wouldn't be as easy or as cheap.
