Star Wars Empire and Bush Policy-the same?

I was watching the news the other day, and I remeber hearing Bush saying that the "Emergency Powers" he had been granted allow him to spy on American citzens. I didn't pay attention to that for a second, thinking it another normal Bush statement. They I doubled back. "Emergency Powers?!" The hell? What is he, Palpatine? I know that sounds like a geeky response, but the more I think about it, the more it seems similar. I mean, in Star Wars, Chancellor Palpatine used his emergency powers to rip apart the Republic constituition until he could become Emperor. Bush is using his "Emergency Powers" to rip apart the consitituition: spying on US citzens, no fair trials, that sort of thing. Now, look at what he's trying to do without his emergency powers: Join Church and State, get rid of abortion, and more.
So what do you think? Are we going to see Stormtroopers soon?

I see what you say and I thought the same thing a while ago. It would be cool and is certainly possible, but still unlikely. Many people will be "Oh it will never happen to us" But people still do drugs, get STDs and Hitler took over Europe, so i could happen, but probably won't.

Aside from comparing the Bush administration to Lucas' Empire which is a little far fetched, I do believe that especially Episode III has a certain undertone which lets you draw some conclusions.

Anyway, I vote yay for http://www.studip.uni-goettingen.de/pictures/smile/stormtrooper.gifhttp://www.studip.uni-goettingen.de/pictures/smile/stormtrooper.gifhttp://www.studip.uni-goettingen.de/pictures/smile/stormtrooper.gif

Well I don't serously think that the US is going to become an empire, but I just thought it was a neat idea.

*sigh* my friend you are leaving out one key detail...palpatine planned his rise to power for many years befor he executed his plan, and it all played out like he planned, i mena palpatine was an evil GENIOUS. think about it, we are talking about bush here, in case you havnt noticed he isnt nearly smart enough to think up anyhting of that magnitude.

George Lucas was interviewed on this about 3 months ago and said that he was not motivated at all by recent events in respect to how he wrote the plot for episode 1,2,3. He did say in an interview 2 years ago that the history of the Roman Empire inspired the series and that it is very easy to pick up similarities between the Roman Republic, Empire, and Caeser and the Galactic Senate, Empire, and Palpatine

Sure Bush hasn't been planning on taking over the country, but you know damn well that Cheney and Ashcroft have been. Bush is just a puppet. Cheney and Ashcroft are the real brains behind the power.

Lucas might have based the Galactic Empire after the Roman Empire, but the United States are looking to base their history off the Roman Empire too.

Cheney. Dick Cheney. Dick Cheney.
Yes, you're right. Dick Cheney is Palpatine!
Serously folks, I'm glad America is finally starting to say "No!" to the Bush adminstration.

I didn't. Only cool thing was the Clone Troopers.

They killed innocent children and Jedi.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 showed it all. :(

Yeah, but the Republic did too sans Jedi. They turned a blind eye to corruption, slavery, and organized crime. The good thing about the Imperial stormtroopers was that they were impervious to corruption unlike Republic officials and police.

There's one problem with your theory... Bush is a moron. He alone couldn't plan this.

And when Darth Rice marches on the Democratic HQ with the 101st behind her and kill all the Democrats (and the Younglings, too!), I'll be the first to sign up for the new Stormtrooper Corps. I've always wanted to wear kewl body armor and shoot up rebel scum. :D

I hope not. If he's going to create an Empire, make it as big as possible, dammit!
