So a federal judge told the folks in PA that intelligent design has no place in a science classroom. Who would've thought?

That fact has been going on since the birth of the USA. If you have just figured out that Intelligent Design isn't allowed/taught in classrooms, then obviously Intelligent Design is false since you aren't intelligent.

What are you talking about? Intelligent Design is currently being taught in Science Classrooms in Kansas, Ohio, and Iowa. California is considering it.

Since the birth of the USA indeed. What do you think the "Scopes Monkey Trial" was about?

Shouldn't all 6 threads about it be combined into one, though?

Just as a sidenote, this is propably the 4th thread about this issue... Seems like it really is a hot topic in the US at the moment. And should be, of course. But from my European point of view, this whole discussion seems just... well, unbelievable.

The fact that this Number 1 Superpow4h of D00M, the World Police, the Most Democratic And Civilized nation our dear mankinf has never produced is actually having a debate of whether to teach science or stories from a collection of fairytales of the Jewish nomad tribes in the Jordan region 2000 years ago... Even though the ID supporters don't actually say it, isn't that what's it all about? "Intelligent desing"... The christian god.

Well, to be honest, the situation is much worse in most of the countries in the world, but when comparing US school system and the debate about it with the Scandinavian equivalents, I feel just damn' lucky to be born here.

We have moved from the Dark Age.

Good to see you are finally trying that, too. ;)

PS. Note: The exaggerating was intentional, just to make my point clear.

It'll be back like the herpes, unfortunately. California won't have it taught, because that would mean that California students would have a very difficult time getting accepted to our own university.

I love it when people anthropomorphize languages...then refuse to learn them.

I was never a fan of SPanish. I only learned ASL, Russian, French, and some key Swedish phrases.

California? Where?

I heard that from a friend of mine out there. Apparently there are fundie groups coming in from Utah and Idaho pushing for it to be taught there. I don't know if any of the school boards are considering it. I amend my earlier statement. Sorry if there was any confusion.

Not around my area. We did have some asshole trying to preech to gradeschoolers but he got fired. They did have to spend money because we got visted by the Christian version of the ACLU. *sighs*

anthropomorphize
.
Is that different than anthropmorphism, which in ancient greek literature is where a god takes the form of a human?

Actually he was refering to applying human characteristics to an inantimate object or animal.

It's a common argument in the study of primate behavior.....
