President Bush's approval ratings surge.

Well,it seems that President Bush is garnering support (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/19/AR2005121900924.html?nav=rss_politics)throughout the country.

Up from a depressing 37% last month, the President now enjoys a healthy 47% approval rating.

I, for one, attribute it to his recent decision to speak to the people more, be more forthcoming with his constituents, and more confrontational with his critics.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this rating is higher than for either the Democratic or Republican senate's.

Looks like Bush is FINALLY getting his message out.

Erm...precisely what is his message?

Well, the Democrats' message is

"Bush sucks. Republicans suck. We don't have any alternative other than we won't do what Bush is doing, and we like running away a lot, and there's no such thing as the war on terror."

So, whatever the opposite of that might be.

"Bush is great. Republicans are great. We're in Iraq to stay. Screw terrorists and their sympathizers, we're searching everything without a warrant."

It's something like this:

"There IS a war going on, We are NOT leaving Iraq pre-maturely, The economy IS going good, we ARE winning the war, we AREN'T losing our civil rights, we ARE going to continue to tap phones if we believe they are having conversations with terrorists, we DON'T care what some old Senator with an onset of Alzheimers says about our military being "broken."

What messages is that exactly and how is he anymore "upfront" then before?

Taking blame for the problem is way different then saying it's my fault. Has he released the Presidential Daily Briefs to support his claims or are they still conviently hidden under the guise of national security?

He jumped in the polls; so what? One bad thing and they will go right back down. I would write off the jumps as holiday cheer. Lets see what happens when people get their december and january power bills. I will also predict that we will see gas climb right back after the holidays....

Oh and saying he has better aproval ratings then Congress is not saying much.

Well Bush deserves a pat on the back for admitting things (eg. Iraq), but Americans are still really pissed off about what he did in the last around 5 years.

While I don't discount the possibility that Bush's ratings have risen--they weren't going to stay in the 30s forever, I imagine--it's also important to realize that this is one poll. You might want to hold off on the celebration until this shows up across the board.

Let me make something clear--I expect they will rise. I'm just always a bit cautious about a single poll that looks like an outlier.

Most of them still have Bush in the 38-42 range.

Hate, violence, and greed.

Those are, after all, the ways into the American heart.

AHHHH!! MATH TERMS!!!
True, it could only get better for him. Although, does anyone know the last time a pres.'s approval rating was in the 30% range?
37 was low, but that was a big leap for a small speech.
State of the Union anyone?

Yes, but he's a Republican, so his message can't actually include sex, it just needs to hint at it subtly.

Well there is a war going on. They will continue to tap phones. They don't care what anybody says. That much is true. Not attractive but true. The rest is pure hogshit.

The two favorite words of any Bush:

"Low Expectations"

If he doesn't trip over his tongue on the way to the podium it's a win.
