Stalin Tried To Create His Own Uruk-hai

Ah, the heady days of Stalin. He wanted to create workers and soldiers that would not complain.
Maybe his name was really Saruman.
Personally, I find it horrifying that they tried to inseminate human "volunteers" for this sort of thing.
Don't you just love Stalin's legacy? What a creative, evil, and insane genius!

THE Soviet dictator Josef Stalin ordered the creation of Planet of the Apes-style warriors by crossing humans with apes, according to recently uncovered secret documents.
Moscow archives show that in the mid-1920s Russia's top animal breeding scientist, Ilya Ivanov, was ordered to turn his skills from horse and animal work to the quest for a super-warrior.
According to Moscow newspapers, Stalin told the scientist: "I want a new invincible human being, insensitive to pain, resistant and indifferent about the quality of food they eat."
In 1926 the Politburo in Moscow passed the request to the Academy of Science with the order to build a "living war machine". The order came at a time when the Soviet Union was embarked on a crusade to turn the world upside down, with social engineering seen as a partner to industrialisation: new cities, architecture, and a new egalitarian society were being created.
The Soviet authorities were struggling to rebuild the Red Army after bruising wars.
Heard about this some years ago. I'm not sure if it was real or not, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Nazi and Soviet eugenics! Building the Uber-Soldat ...
Wonder if the US is doing the same

Might I say that while this sounds incredibly absurd, it's well within the reach of absurdity that several absurdist governments have gone to in the past century. Hell, the Nazis thought they were the descendants of ancient Atlantis or something batshit crazy like that.
Wonder if the US is doing the same
No. Our experiments in super-performance enhancement is currently restricted to the self-inflicted variety. You can watch our progress by tuning into Major League Baseball.

And the pinnacle of our research is Barry Bonds.
I don't know if that is true, but did you know Bulgakov published a short story around that time that eerily resembled this?
But, first of all let's establish that Stalin was not in power in the mid-twenties, not even in 1926.
This type of thinking is consistent with a Stalin that wanted to (and thought he could, IN HIS LIFETIME): change the climate so that Moscow so that it grows palms and rubber trees, connect the extremities of the USSR through a railway that ran on permafrost, build a tunnel from Siberia to Sakhalin, grow maize canes no more than 2 mm from each other, turn the steppes and deserts into arable lands, connect ALL major rivers inside the Soviet Union to each other, create a Soviet citizenship more real than any national affiliation, etc etc.
However, that Stalin is a much, much later Stalin. He slowly became this prolific only after 1937-1940.

This is correct, however, Stalin probably had enough power within the party to commission this doctor in his work while keeping it secret. After all, he did gain the loyalty of the secret police and so on...

Ah, but that bastard Trotsky had most of the support in the party. that icepick showed him, serves him right mumblemumblemumble
Ahem, anyway. :p
Yeah, Trotsky had more support in the party, and popularly as well. As you said, though Stalin pretty much had control of the secret police. It was probably just that the doctor was more sympathetic to Stalin than to any of the other potential leaders.

I don't. But then, I already have one, so why would I need to dream of one?

Oh, those silly Soviets. I hope the scientists were smart enough to give him regular reports on their "progress", while secretly embezzling the entire project budget.

CURSE YOU STALIN!!! DEATH ONLY MADE ME STRONGER!!! Oh, good God. *covers eyes* we have a Soviet war in progress in NS General.
Some day, someone like Stalin will gain medical knowledge of how to prolong their lifetime indefinitely so they can actually fulfil all their grand ambitions. Then there will be, as the Chinese put it "Interesting times".

No...no it didn't. Death only made you dead. However, after your death, I was still able to fuck up the USSR even further. So, ner! :p

Let's be honest, it was bound to happen eventually.
