Maybe some people just don't want to identify with mainstream Christmas-culture, and instead choose to celebrate something else. That's not dumb, that doesn't make the people dumb (although I'm sensing another racial swipe here), and most of all - it's none of your business.

I've never even heard about it, so it's not celebrated in Germany or Australia.

Who really gives a crap? To those who celebrate Kwanzaa, they have their reasons. Whether those reasons are based on an appreciation for the meaning behind the holiday, or a display of ignorance is really irrelevant. Because Kwanzaa, in no way, affects anybody who doesn't feel like celebrating it. It's like the Chinese New Year in America.

Actually the Internet got it start in the 60s-70's in the militatry. More specifically, the Pentagon. It was used for text based communication, and it grew from that.

I'm not too familiar with the origins of the holiday but, seeing how many holidays have violent origins anyway, I don't see anything wrong with celebrating Kwanzaa in a peaceful manner. As I understand, the holiday itself doesen't teach violent precepts despite its creators.
