Hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has banned all Western music from Iran's state radio and TV stations — an eerie reminder of the 1979 Islamic revolution when popular music was outlawed as "un-Islamic" under Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Today, though, the sounds of hip-hop can be heard blaring from car radios in Tehran's streets, and Eric Clapton's "Rush" and the Eagles'"Hotel California" regularly accompany Iranian broadcasts.

No more — the official IRAN Persian daily reported Monday that Ahmadinejad, as head of the Supreme Cultural Revolutionary Council, ordered the enactment of an October ruling by the council to ban all Western music, including classical music, on state broadcast outlets.

"Blocking indecent and Western music from the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting is required," according to a statement on the council's official Web site.

It's truly a pity that Carter and his band of fools decided to piss away all the stability America enjoyed from the moderately pro-Western Shah. The revolution would've swiftly been suppressed if his administration didn't threaten to cut off American support to his monarchy unless he stopped the SAVAK's crackdown. Alas, now the free world is stuck dealing with these crazies.

Heh yes. The brutal system of justice, the religious persecution, the chemical weapons, the wars, the funding of terrorists... but banning hip-hop? NOW YOUVE GONE TOO FAR!

All western music? Well I could understand some genres... but all? Well more fool them. But at least there will be less pop music flooding into our world.

This President certainly does seem to be trigger happy though. However, nothing of the military persuassion yet.

At times like this those in high political positions have to ask theirselves..."Do we really care?"

I find it odd tha they would ban Classical music. That seems to be the least obviously American. What are they worried about? Its not like there are words to turn the kids against...whatever it is our music is turning them against.

In the Carter years the official policy was not to support OPPRESSIVE DICTATORIAL REGIMES in anyway shape or form. And the Shah was very fond of killing anyone with a different opinion than the government IN MASS so he counts as a Psychotic Dictator that America should not of had ANY contact with.

No more support for dictators!

Right. And somehow, the psychotic Islamofascists are better than a man who tried to institute Western-style reforms? A man who strengthened the economy during his rule, extended suffrage to women, and tried to break the power of the mullahs?

He only had to kill a whole bunch of his people to do it...

Reforms that are made by the gun have a tendency to backfire in the faces of the person holding the gun.

Hindsight is 20/20 and it is so wonderful to look back on something with that and say "well, if they've done this and hadn't done that..." What's done is done.

As far as banning western music and movies, etc... I'm of a mind to say "go ahead, do it!" Who knows? After having fought so hard to have some cultural freedoms restored, having them snatched back away may just be the excuse they need to have another revolution - this time one against the extremists Islamists.

You never know...

Ya know, one of these days, that "president" is gonna get too dopped up, and pull the trigger at America or Europe, and then it's all over....

But seriously, who CAN live without the internet these days?

Actually, a lot of people these days don't have internet. It's not too surprising that Iran banned Western music. Fortunately, I think it's good for them to try to preserve their own individuality. Also, most of the bands people have listed are probably unknown to most Iranians anyways. It's not that big of a difference or a deal that they'd ban music from western countries. At least they have their own music to listen to and I applaude their government for making such a step.:D

On the subject of pr0n, it's never free. If they allow free access, then your computer is being infected with every win32 attachment virus possible.

You can't. It's the window operator inside which is why it's a pain to get it infected. The only way to remove it is to reformat the hard drive or reinstall the entire computer *which is what I do to avoid missing viruses*.

Anyone supporting dictators who happen to be the pets of the United States in particular are simply put, blind to the general principle of Cause and Effect.

Supporting oppressive dictators just because they pay lip service to American interests inevitably turns around to sting America in the ass.

Take a look when the U.S. supported Ngo Dinh Diem. Vietnam stung America in the Ass.

When the U.S. supported the Shah? The Iranian Revolution came and America got stung in the ass.

When the U.S. supported Saddam Hussein? Iraq is in the process of stinging America in the ass.

When the U.S. supported Ferdinand Marcos? If Mount Pinatubo hadn't erupted, the Philippines might have ended up stinging America in the ass. Hell, the Abu Sayaf are still down in Mindanao probably waiting for the chance to sting America in the ass now. And even the post-Marcos government is not a squeaky clean bastion of democracy.

The U.S. support of the House of Saud is charging up to stinging America in the ass severely, especially with regards to Middle Eastern sentiment and support for terrorists and insurgents.

The U.S. support of Pervez Musharraf will end up stinging America in the ass too, I predict.
