I just found my Call to Power cd after not having played it for years. You'd think that since the last time I played it, I would have learned things that would have helped me, but obviously that wasn't the case. The first game I got 4 cities, and I was barely at rennaisance level technology when I lost (this was about the year 1900). Second game I got a bunch more technology and I was doing pretty good fighting off the Russian attacks, but my technological progress and manufacturing ability sort of siezed up at 19th century level and I could barely build anything. Somehow, I have never won in my life, even when I was using the cheats menu.:headbang: If anyone has won this game before, could you please give me some ideas about how to win?

It's easy to win. Just don't stop building cities. Build as many settlers as possible.

I'm with kanabia on that one.

When playing ANY civ game, I always make it my policy to make sure that when I found a city, one of the first jobs that city gets is to build a new settler.

Once your nation is large it can quite easily build up structures to support the economic and scientific requirements for conquering the world.

Maybe that's what I've been doing wrong. Once I have a city, I always build up defenses before making new settlers. I do this because I almost always lose by being conquered. Since I'm really bad at attacking, I usually try to win by the alien life project. Have either of you won that way?

I like cultural victories :)
but yea, if you wanna win, you gotta just keep pumpin out the settlers and buildin' up the territory and army. and the more cities the higher the scientific output so you can have that advantage over your enemies also
and the more cities, the more units you can pump out when someone pisses you off

I did. It's probably the coolest way of winning other than world conquest. In CTP 2 you get some other very interesting ways of winning, but it's a shame that they didn't go further with the series; there were some truly excellent ideas in there.

(In my opinion, it was the weak AI in CTP 2 that did it in along with competition from the Sid Meier series.)

Try building only one unit per city at first and then expand as fast as possible, building walls along the way.

I've completed it once that way.

With the expansion what I normally do is I fortify my capital - 1,2 units maybe, then another settler. That city gets founded and starts building a settler, my capital carries on building units though, this ensures that all the new cities have one defensive unit. Follow this through by then moving the unit production away from your capital and start building your city improvements.

I always tend to start towards growth and then science based structures - you see with this method of expansion you can always pull units away from some cities if you have any skirmishes, generally I try to keep the peace till I've got knights (these guys are the start of my militaristic expansion usually).

With you constantly expanding, it allows you to have numerous bases from which to support your financial, scientific and military projects.

From then on, it's pretty much up to you what you do.

I was able to get ahead of the AI pretty quickly. I'd be in the Modern or even Genetic if they were in the Renaissance. After that, I'd hit Diamond and conquer them. 9-sized stacks of Leviathans were always a slow but amusing way to polish off someone if I wasn't in a hurry.
