Would you take your mother to the cinema?

A few minutes ago, my mom offered to take me to see the new Harry Potter movie. Both of us really want to see the film, but I said I wasn't sure if I wanted to go with her. All of my friends have seen it already (and they're ashamed to be seen with me in public), but I'm at an age where I'll be ridiculed if I'm seen at a movie with my mother. And there's no way that I will not be seen, because 80% of the staff at the cinema attend my school. But one I tried to tell my mom that, she seemed very hurt. Now I don't know what to do. I'd love to take my mom to see the movie, but I get nervous if I see my peers outside of school, especially when with my mother.
The question for you is, do you or would you take your mother* to see a movie?
*(Father, Grandparent, or other guardian would work as well).

Yes. Take your mother. This is going to get you good Brownie Points. Plus, you don't have to pay.

I don't suppose the fact she dedicates 20 years of her life to ensure your own well-being selflessly should be taken into account?
For the love of god, just do a little something to please her once or twice a year, ungrateful runt! There is no reason to be ashamed of your mother! Everyone has a mother, everyone!
Heck, I'm 22 and I'll still kiss her good-bye when she gives me a lift, no matter if there's anyone watching. She deserves as much.

*(Father, Grandparent, or other guardian would work as well).Of course you should go with your mom. You said yourself that you would love to go with her, and your peers won't think any worse of you if they see you having a good time with your parent; hell, if they are your friends, yo could even introduce them. I go to movies with my mom all the time. Beeing a teenager is non-sensicle - I mean, this shouldn't even be an issue.

I wouldn't take my mom to see a movie. She's not really interested in them. I'd take her to see a WWE event though. She's a big fan.

I understand kids can be cruel BUT what kind of friends are ashamed to be seen with you if they are your true friends?

Well, I'm a bit odd. Sometimes I'll have a random impulse to shout, dance, or try on an ugly hat. My friends are just too normal, but I can't hate them for that.

I'm REALLY tired of teenagers. I guess I must have missed the boat for not being a little snot. Logic...what do your friends do for you? What about your mother? She's one of few people in the world that cares more about you then herself. She sacrifices SO MUCH for you. I can't believe you're even considering this...no wait...you're a teenager...yeah I can believe this. Your mother CARES about you MUCH more then your friends. INGRATE!!!

First of all, if the people you consider your friends don't want to be seen with you because you don't fit their cookie-cutter image, then they aren't your friends. Personally, I would be ashamed to be seen with so called normal people who are that judgemental and fickle that they can't tolerate individual unique qualities. Do you think they may be clones??
Go to the movie with your mom, have a great time, laugh out loud at every opportunity, and then, if anyone should be so ignorant as to make fun of you, pointedly ask them what they have done for their mom in appreciation of all she does for them. Turn it around on them to show that they are the fools, not you.

No. We've vastly difference tastes in movies, she hates sitting near the front, I love it. She also hates sitting alone, so I'd be "obligated" to sit in the back rows with her. Also, she drives me up the wall.

Yes, that is an important point. Just trying to instill a little compassion in the youngun for his poor old silver haired mommy. If he doesn't catch on soon though, I'm gonna launch into all the muddy diapers and puddles of whoopsie she has cleaned up after him.

I go to the movies with my mom a lot. I don't see the problem with it, what are you supposed to do, not be seen in public with a member of your family ever?
I hope when my girls are teenagers they will still want to spend time with me and thier father. It's not like you are going out on a date with her or something, people go the movies sometimes because they want to see a movie.

Sorry about the gender mistake, I haven't seen enough of your posts to have an idea as to your gender, so I went with "he". 50% chance I would be right...now you see why I never gamble. "Silver haired mommy" is a euphemism to represent the vulnerable and venable model of mothers.

if you are a girl then why are you worried about it at all? ever heard of "girl's day out"? My family does that all the time, all the women in the family go out for lunch and a movie. Maybe you should start doing it too. You may not like spending time with your mom now, but believe me the older you get the more you will want her around, treat her nice now, so that when you need her she will want you around. A good relationship with your mom can make life easier.

Mom and I go to the movies twice a year - Mother's Day and her birthday. Then again, I'm over 30 so I've learned an appreciation for mothers.
From my point of view, I hardly see either of my parents anymore (although I'm more to blame for that than they are) and mom's pretty cool, so sure, if she wanted me to come to a movie and I was actually in New Hampshire or she was in Ohio I'd say sure. Only hesitation I'd have is that we only have the same taste in movies 50% of the time XD I generally like things that are a good deal darker.

I loved going to the movies with my mom as a teenager, often because she has the same wierd sense of humor I do, so if I saw something I had to make a smart-ass remark on I would always have someone to giggle with:p I still take her out to the movies when she will let me, I am in my 30's now.

i'm not suprised.
fuck your friends/peers. you only have one mum and who cares what they think/if they take the piss out of you for it? if they do they're a bunch of wankers anyway.
for the record i go with my parents to see movies all the time/exclusively at the moment seeing how my friends live over 150 miles away at uni... it really doesn't bother me and frankly, in most cases, i'd rather go with my mum/dad anyway

I would never go with my mum to the cinema more to the point I would never see Harry Potter
Ask someone out and use the excuse that you couldn’t get anything else its what I would do
see what you want + action + a good meal cheap (as long as you take out someone in the 21st century who split’s the bill) = fun!
(mind you I do have the black sheep position so I tell her to take out goody two shoes)

How the hell is this even a question? Jesus Christ this is sad... alright, I'll save the ridicule and scorn. Just take your mother out and grow a little self-respect and dignity. Maybe one day when you are a mother you will look back on this and have a twinge of shame and regret. I hope at least...:(

I took my mother to see Harry Potter a couple weeks ago, and my friend came along too. No embarassment here. Then again, I'm not a teenager.
Plus she bought my ticket and after the movie we went out for yummy Persian food, her treat.

I would, if she wanted to go and see something (I think the last time was Apollo 13). However, if it were something I really wanted to watch, I might see it by myself first. She has an annoying tendency to talk through films ;)

Yes, even though she will ask me a million questions during the movie. She birthed me - I could sit through a movie with her from time to time if she wanted to.
When you get to see the birthing process - you will understand.

Sure, I'd take my mom to a movie... now
when i was a teenager, i didn't want to be caught dead near my mom, let alone take her to a movie. hehe
No. They'd probably take the urn from me at the entrance.
