Or at least, he'll be gone by the end of the year. (http://poynter.org/forum/view_post.asp?id=10798) Good riddance in my view--they should have tossed him the second he leaked Valerie Plame's connection with the CIA.

I have a question about Novak that's been irking me.

He says, "don't ask me, ask Bush who leaked". Ok. And I thought, if that's true, and Novak has talked to the grand jury already, and Novak knows who leaked, then I would assume that the prosecutor already knows who leaked, and on Novak's word alone, that would be enough to prosecute. So why only Libby charged so far? Why isn't Novak just saying who it is?

I can see why, if Bush knows, he isn't saying - that would be self-implication. But Novak has nothing to lose by opening his mouth.

Before this turns sour, I'd like to observe that guys like Novak never really disappear. If that was so, we wouldn't have to listen to Walter Cronkite push his communist agenda.

No, we'll get to read Novak and probably see him on some other network until he dies.

We can add "pundit" and "journalist" to the list of occupations (such as lawyer, doctor, and weatherman) where you can base your whole career on screwing up.

As far as I can tell, Fitzgerald's main concern is being able to convict, not just charge, and a Novak versus whoever will only get you a charge. There's also the question of which statute, out of many, to try to charge on, and the problem of obstruction, which is one of the Libby charges. Fitzgerald has spent a lot of time with the grand jury this week, and there are still a lot of people on the inside who say Rove is still in deep shit over this. I've been patient on this so far, and I'll continue to be. I'll say this though--if I'd done something iffy, I wouldn't want Fitzgerald on my ass.

That still doesn't explain why Novak is pretending to be coy. What possible reason could he have for not saying who it is?

If I had the patience to go to night law school, I'd set up a real-estate law practice and just do closings. Georgia requires lawyers to close on real-estate, but they don't seem to have any responsibility beyond making sure the signatures are in the right places and the right names are on the notes.

If they don't collect enough money, they aren't responsible, they just go to the party that owes and collect some more. If something can't be filed, they just keep trying until they get it right. I've never seen a more fault-tolerant occupation.

Part of it is probably because he would lose his vaunted access if he openly ratted out whoever was his source--telling it to the Grand Jury is one thing, because it's supposed to remain secret unless he wants to make it open knowledge.

Looks like FOX just got a new douchebag.

Now if only they sign John Edward, their douchebaggery would be complete.

I can see the ad campaign now:

FOX, so Fair and Balanced, we see things From the Other Side...
